Chapter 9: The Mate Bond

~Skyler's POV~
"You. Your my mate." Those four words were repeating itself in my mind. I couldn't quite wrap my head around this. Me, the girl who has just got her heart ripped to shreds, has a mate. I'm going to be helping leading a pack, I'm going to be somebody people look up to, and I'm only 17! I can't lead people! I still have school and college!

"No." Was the only word I said, Shay was screaming at me, telling me to shut up and just be with him.

Trevor looked at me confused," What?"

"No, I'm not gonna be your mate, no I'm not gonna help you lead your pack."

As I spoke I watched Trevor's eyes fill with absolute anguish. It looked like someone had just ripped his heart out of his chest.

"But..but-" Trevor started but I quickly interrupted him.

"I'm only 17! I still have school and I want to go to college!" I exclaimed. I don't know why I was over reacting, everything is just over whelming me and I don't know what to do. Me, Skyler Aldaine was a Luna, of a pack of werewolves! Seriously could I not catch a break?!

"I'm not saying you have to quit school..." Was the only reply Trevor offered. He looked utterly heart broken. It made my heart ache. I couldn't stand to see him like that.

"Why are you looking at me like? Your acting like I stomped on your favorite doll."

"I don't like dolls." Was his only response. I hated that he was like this, I hated that I was the one to do this to him.

We sat there for over an hour, not saying anything just staring at each other. Finally I decided to break the silence, "I'm... I'm just gonna go." I got up to leave and started heading for the door. I got to the door and opened it, he made no move to stop me and it hurt my chest. A lot. I walked out the door and shut it behind me. I rested my back for a second on it and took a deep breath, trying to stop the ache in my chest. I walked down the steps and started the very long walk home. The entire time wondering why didn't he stop me from leaving.

~Trevor's POV~

I watched my mate walk out of my house, heard her take a deep breath and walk away. Every fiber of my being was telling me to go to her, stop her from walking away, but what excuse could I possibly give her to stay? Tell her that I couldn't possibly live without her?

"Yeah, dumbass you could of told her that! But instead you let her walk out!!" Derek said, upset and heartbroken. When Skyler said no to being with us, it was like she was rejecting us, Derek howled in agony. But I knew she was just overwhelmed with everything, and thats why I let her walk away. She needed time to think and to process everything I told her,and I understood that but it didn't hurt any less when she walked out. I wanted to go to her now and plead to her to be with me, us. But I knew it would make everything worse. So for now I'm just going to wait for her, be there for her if she needs me, and protect her.
