Demons weren't as evil as everyone thought. Quietus had an army of demons, aptly known as Death Demons, and he knew first hand they were not the demons described in many books, or even in religion. Instead, they only catered to Quietus' every will, which is why they weren't as bad as everyone learned.
Quietus had about a hundred scattered around the world, with fourteen in each continent. However, he, being the real Grim, was still in charge and these so called "demons" reported to him after a two to a maximum of three months months. The system was simple: they would work as part time Reapers of human souls, and in some cases, animals, plants, and other living organisms. They did all of this in their designated continent and reported a general statement about how the month went, who couldn't be reaped, who had been taken care of, et cetera.
One of the best ways they used to communicate across the country was the giant book they all shared. Each one was literally the same, with red leather, engraved in the leather. It was named a Demon's Diary, as it held their life, work, and a way of communication to other demons everywhere else in the world. Each page changed daily as people were crossed off the national list of souls to be reaped daily. The book grew thicker and thicker every day with statuses on who people were, who was destined to die, and just general information. Full name, age, place of birth, occupation, continent, country, city, and a brief description of both personality and appearance. However, since the actual location of the people change without warning, Quietus and the demons had to search for the victims using the general description to help them. In the United States, Quietus had five partners- Gunner not included. Three men and two women-Jeffrey, born as Malum, Jack, born as Melius, Erika, born as Saeva, Caleb, born as Dux, and Casey Marie, born as Scelesta. She had been named Scelesta at birth but they decided to hand her a new name since it was easier to blend in with.
Despite popular belief, demons didn't have bloody red skin all the time, or fire for eyes, or horns; they had two forms. One in which was the actual demon form, where they had unbelievably white skin and either night black hair or bloody red locks. Most demonesses had bloody hair and demons had the black hair. These demons were normal for the most part, except all their eyes were ungodly colors, ranging from near pure white to jet-black. Various shades of gray and red often filled the irises of the demons. They were elegant and graceful, loyal to only Quietus. They had their own scythe, although less powerful. They wore the same hood as Quietus had when in his Reaper form and were as human as everyone else.
Casey had been supposed to be meeting Quietus at some point, but he wouldn't have guessed it would be tonight. After Gunner fell asleep, he decided to walk around and go catch his breath after such a stressful and boring day. He walked past an alleyway before he heard footsteps. Glancing to the side, he saw a shred of blonde curls peeking out of the woman's puce hoodie. He knew exactly who it was. He stopped walking and turned on his heel.
"Casey. Long time, no see. Last I heard you were in Florida; what brings you to California?" he asked while smirking. He had already been familiar with Casey's human form, a heart-stopping blonde with piercing hazel eyes and the face of a doll. It made it much less difficult to reap souls when the women were easy on the eyes; he'd trust a pretty girl more than a demonic one.
"Quietus," she grinned wickedly, knocking her hood from out of her face. "A pleasure as always. I just decided I'd drop by to give you a report." The skies were gloomy, but near the horizon a shred of light began to peek out. The sky was a gradience of a navy blue to a blinding orange, although the navy dominated the heavens. The streets were relatively empty compared to earlier but it wouldn't be long before they burst with life, much like the sky was bursting with color.
"Have there been any issues lately, Casey?" Quietus instigated. Casey bit her cheek and shook out her hair. Her cheeks seemed flushed and lacked the rosiness they usually held. She flipped her hair out of her face.
