Unwanted Church Behavior

Honestly, thinking about Allison, I couldn’t sleep. I slept for three hours and woke up at two-thirty. After I gave up on going back to sleep, I read Too Much of a Good Thing by my favorite author Kimberla Lawson Roby that I borrowed from my homegirl Jazmine on Thursday. With all that’s been going on, I forgot I had it! Mrs. Roby makes her stories so realistic and interesting that it basically comes off like a movie. I finished reading it in about an hour and thirty minutes.
With all the drama that’s going on in the church, this book was very appropriate. The main character and pastor of the fictional church “Truth” Curtis Black reminds me of Mt. Zion’s pastor Dr. Leon Smith. Both Curtis and Dr. Smith are tall, dark-skinned, handsome, and have the talent of preaching. The only difference is that Dr. Smith doesn’t come off like a man whore!
Even though Curtis Black is supposed to be a happily-married pastor, he pretty much smashes everything that walks through the doors of the church. Even though Too Much of a Good Thing is a fictional story, there are some real life Curtis Blacks out there that make a mockery of the black church.
After I finished the book, I started thinking about things that I absolutely didn’t like about going to Mt. Zion. Yeah, besides all the fake people and over-the-top drama, Mt. Zion is a great place to worship. But, there are just a couple things about my home church that makes me heated!
For example, all the babies that act a fool during the sermon! I swear, I’ve gone to many churches throughout my life and the li’l children there were cool. If they started crying or got too crazy, their parents would take them out.
Not at Mt. Zion!
Those parents will just sit there and let the babies take over the service. One even ran up on the stage while Dr. Smith was preaching. He played it off cool, but Dr. Smith was probably super angry! These parents need to take control of their kids! I go through pure hell at Clarkson and I need to hear a good sermon to start off my week right. But, it’s hard to concentrate on the word Dr. Smith is giving to us to receive when you got kids screaming in your ear, kicking your seat, throwing their toys at you, and running on stage like they’re at the park! Their parents need to teach them how not to act ratchet in the church.
Speaking of ratchet, another thing that I dislike about Mt. Zion is how these grown women dress. This church is like the first choice for off-the-clock strippers in the city. Seriously, you’d think half these women got off the pole at Black Diamonds, the most popular strip club in Willowsfield, and drove down to Mt. Zion. Do these women really think that wearing clear heels above seven inches are appropriate for church? And don’t get me started on these fat females wearing clothes that are way too tight. Then, they’re the main ones catching the Holy Ghost, with their stretch marks showing and stomach flying everywhere! The women of Mt. Zion really need to tighten up.
After those terrible flashbacks, I guess I should go on and start my daily morning routine. Even though I’m worried about Allison, I have a feeling that she’s gonna be alright. As long as I’m around, she won’t have to worry about being lost or alone. Believe that!
Sincerely,
