Standing in that hospital room with him made my heart race so fast that I didn't know it was humanly possible.

"Um.." I say shaking my head as if to clear it and get a grip on myself, "Hello, I'm Charlotte. Sorry for the lagging response, I didn't get to sleep much. Those chairs downstairs are killer on your muscles," I continued, adding in a small laugh and a smile that said I'm okay I swear.

He sat there for a while, whether he was processing what I'd just said or he was thinking of something else was debatable. Nonetheless, we both sat in a silence that I'd grown accustom to in the last several hours.

"Well," I state to break the silence that enveloped both of us, "I hope you're okay. The doctors said you were stable, but I wanted to stay until I knew for sure." He looked up from the placed he'd been staring at a moment ago and gazed at me with a slightly startled look moving over his features. Like somehow he'd forgotten I'd been standing at the end of his bed for a good part of 10 minutes.

"Thank you," he mumbled. His eyes looked confused, yet his body language screamed confidence. It made me wonder what was on his mind, but it wasn't my place to ask and I'd just met the guy.

"Now that I know," I started, half making sure he was listening, half to fill the silence that kept forcing its way into the room, "I'll be getting out of your hair. Nice to meet you, sir." I sent a smile in his direction, picked up my bag, and headed towards the door. I walked slowly like I was giving him a chance to stop me, to tell me to stay with him, help him. But he didn't. I walked out of the room not knowing his name or even if he lived in this city or not.

Not all stories can be happily ever after, Charlotte. I reprimanded myself. I approached the elevator and as I was about to press the down arrow, a voice called to me. "Wait, Charlotte!" I turned towards the yelling to find the mystery guy running directly to me. "Wait," he gasped trying to catch his breath as he got to me. His emerald eyes flashing distress when he looked up at me, "Don't leave."
