"Dre sure is taking his precious time," Megumi said as she watched the battle on the screen. Sakura, Joel, and Loyalty had been subbed out for Chris Blade, Hwan-Jin, and the dark-skinned woman whom Megumi had found out was named Alycia. Sakura had taken Chris's place as their dispatch, giving the team a kinder speaker.
"He's always been like that," Lucius said. "It takes him at least ten minutes to get a drink of water."
"How long have you known him?" Kim asked.
"For as long as I can remember. My dad always went to their house, and whenever he did, he took me along. I can barely even remember the last time I went over his house."
"What? Did you, like, move or something?" Megumi asked.
"Yeah. My family moved to Amity. Dad said that he wanted me to be closer to my Amian heritage. There is a lot of things that you probably won't even witness yet."
"Like what?"
"Well, dragons, for one."
"Bull," Megumi stated with a dry look.
"No. Not bull. Dragon. You do know what a dragon is right." Megumi didn't answer, her dry look unflinching. With a sigh, Lucius said, "Okay, a dragon is-"
"I know what a dragon is. I'm just saying that you're full of crap. Dragons don't exist."
"Before you found out about this life, you probably thought that aliens didn't exist either. Besides, dragons aren't the only surprise that's waiting for you. You also have things like water imps, living sky islands-"
"The tooth fairy, Santa Claus, Chupacabra..." Megumi interrupted.
Lucius just chuckled as he said, "Just wait. Whenever you get proved wrong, I want you write me a letter saying how wrong you were."
"Deal."
Minutes ticked away as they waited for Dre. The second round had already began. "Do you think anything happened to him?" Kim asked with a troubled look.
"Not really. I doubt the security would allow anyone to be attacked here," Lucius said.
"Well, yes. But he doesn't know how to control his powers any more than we do. Not to mention he's... timid."
"Oh, the irony!" Megumi called.
"What do you mean?" Kim asked. Both she and Lucius looked perplexed.
"Look, you're an awesome dude, Kim, but you'd make Gandhi look like Duke Nukem," she sniggered.
"Duke Nukem?" Lucius asked. Kim simply blinked in confusion.
Dre scooted back to his seat, holding a hamburger and a hot dog, both wrapped in foil, and a pizza on a paper plate. "Did I miss much?"
"Besides the second round, not much. What took you so long anyways? I'm starving," Megumi said, snatching her burger from Dre's grip.
"That wasn't my fault," he said as he sidestepped Kim and took his seat. "Everyone, their mom, and their first cousins decided to get hungry at the same time. The lines stretched all the way across the hallway. Oh, and I was taking care of a wolf while I waited." Almost as if it had been called, a wolf-like puppy crept past Kim and jumped in Dre's lap, its tail wagging joyfully in the air as it climbed up Dre's chest and began licking his face.
"Dude, do you know what that is? It looks like a Husky/Wolf hybrid. I heard those things are extremely loyal," Lucius said as Kim scooted slightly away from Dre.
"Is that right? Heel!" he commanded as he held the puppy back from drenching his face. It cocked its head for a second before slipping past Dre's hands and went back to licking his face. "Oh, thanks. Thanks a lot, Lucius. That time he got my lip."
"Name it first, genius," Megumi said. She, Lucius, and Kim struggled to stifle their laughter.
"I hope you're right," he said as he picked up the puppy and held it in front of him. He studied him for a moment before saying, "I guess I'll name you Blitz. You like that name?" Blitz yipped happily. "Okay, Blitz. Sit," he said as he placed Blitz on his lap. It obediently sat. "Rockin', you were right, dude," he said happily.
"When am I not?" she shrugged.
"Okay, no need to be so self-centered, 8-Bit." Megumi flipped him off.
"Do you think your dad will let you keep him?" Kim asked, still looking slightly squeamish around Blitz.
Dre shrugged. "I hope so. I'll tell him about it when I next see him."
"Wait, where's my drink?" Lucius asked.
"Still in the concession stand with the rest ofmy money."
