"Well would you believe me if I told you that every girl I've dated has dumped me?" he asked peering deep into my eyes. I looked at him in confusion; I took in his whole profile from the model-like face to his well-developed body. I pursed my lips, who wouldn't want that?
"I can tell by the face you're making that you find it hard to believe," he chuckled lightly. I nodded my head waiting for him to continue.
"You know how I was at the station today?" he asked and then continued avoiding eye contact, "all my past girlfriends have found it...difficult to be with me because of my sister," he ended with a heavy sigh.
"What does she have anything to do with that?" I was still perplexed. They were dating him, not his sister.
The waitress brought our orders but not without trying to entice the Adonis that was sitting directly in front of me. After she left he continued with his explanation.
"My sister is only nineteen and she tends to depend on me a lot, actually for everything, from her housing to things such as helping her in court. My past girlfriends," I felt a light pain in my chest when he said the word girlfriends, "have seen my sister as an annoyance and always wanted me to get rid of her, but she's family."
Then I nodded in understanding, "That makes a lot more sense now that you've explained it."
"I know that I'm going off a limb here but would you ever be involved with someone like me who has such responsibilities?" he asked in a serious tone. His eyes searched mine for the truth and I felt obligated to give it to him.
I laughed at him, "Of course I would I mean come on," I threw my hands in the air then pointed at my tummy, "I'm pregnant so I'll have a much harder time than you trying to rope someone in."
We both laughed but he looked at me with a gleam in his eye.
After we had finished he offered to drive me back to the court so I could pick up Lily. I accepted the offer with some disappointment because this was where we parted ways. He kept up light conversation and as soon as I was walking back to Lily I felt him grab my arm.
I stopped humming.
"I was calling your name but you never looked back and now I know why," he flashed me an adorable smile to which I colored slightly.
"Sorry what was it that you wanted to tell me?" Now it was his turn to blush and I must say he looked quite cute. I mentally chided myself for thinking that. He was probably just doing a pregnant girl a favor.
He gave me a slip of paper, "If you ever need anything don't hesitate to call," and then he gave me a light kiss on the cheek before walking back to his car and driving off.
I would like to say that my reaction was as chill as a cucumber but I tend to overreact so as soon as he drove away I started jumping with delight and I ran to Lily jumped on top of the car and broke into song, just like they do in Broadway. When I finished my high I carefully got off of Lily and entered the car. I was giggling like a schoolgirl.
On the drive home though I most definitely sobered up, I remembered that the house I was currently heading to no longer belonged to Tucker and I. And a sickening thought of the mistress being brought over here made me shiver in disgust. That was most likely why the water bill had gone up so high this month. I just hope the bastard didn't sleep with her in our bed but knowing him now they probably did.
I parked Lily in front of my house and I sighed but heaved myself out of the car. There were no other places to sleep right now.
Griffin, my traitorous brain thought.
