"Mom! Dad! I'm home." I shouted out, announcing my presence as I came through the door. Almost immediately, I was greeted with a reply.
"We're in the study, honey!" Mom's voice responded from upstairs, leaving me with an open invitation.
Giving a quick wave to Hannah, who was busy in the kitchen, I made my way upstairs with a plan in action. On my way home, with my two best friends'- my usual ride, I came up with a way to end the marriage. I was going to snitch on Reece's ass, hopefully giving him the spot of number one on my mom's naughty list, which would make her hesitant about the wedding. She wouldn't want to leave her poor daughter in the hands of a guy who lacked the proper gentleman qualities, would she?
With a determined stride, I entered the study only to be met with not only my parents but Reece's as well.
Why were they here?
"Darling, come join us." Mom said, gesturing to the unoccupied couch in the study. Taking a seat, Nicole immediately gave me an explanation.
"Well, I'm sure you're wondering why we're here, but we all agreed that it was time for us to further discuss the marriage we spoke of the last dinner."
"You said you'd give us time to take everything in, I wouldn't consider one and a half days as time," I said forthrightly. I believed I had the right to, after all, it was my freedom being taken away from me.
"The sooner we have this wedding, the better," my father stated, making all the adults nod their heads in agreement.
"Don't you mean the sooner we end this marriage, the better," Reece countered, announcing his presence as he strolled in.
Ignoring his statement, Mr. Collins ordered him to sit beside me on the couch, to which he reluctantly complied.
"We've realized," Mr. Collins started. "That an arranged marriage out of the blue would leave both of you in an uncomfortable and unhappy marriage. To make your marriage more manageable, we've decided that you both should spend more time together. Which is why you'll be moving in together for 4 months."
Reece's once lax posture became rigid. "And please do tell where we'll be living?"
The atmosphere got tense.
"You know where." Mr. Collins responded, causing Reece to get out of the seat.
"Are you serious? We made a deal, and it sure as hell didn't include sharing."
"My money, My rules."
It was silent as Reece, and his father had an intense staredown. However, it was clear who was more in charge, succumbing to the inevitable Reece looked away.
"I'm leaving."
"We're not fin-" A slammed door severed Nicole's words before she could get through to her son, causing her to sigh.
"Paige," my mother said as her head gestured towards the door. I knew exactly what she was telling me to do, but I didn't want to do it.
"But-"
Her glare silenced anything I had to say against what she ordered. With a resigned sigh, I left the study and made my way downstairs to find Reece outside leaning against his black Audi R8 Coupe with a hand in his pocket. The other holding his phone, which held his current attention. Hearing movement, he glanced up then immediately glanced back down.
"You owe me an apology," I said. Folding my arms as I played off the insult of me not being able to hold his attention for even a second.
"For?" he asked his attention still on his phone.
"Are you serious? You left me in the middle of nowhere for a stupid reputation."
His eyes narrowed as he fully acknowledged me, copying my folded arms while keeping his stance. "I wouldn't exactly call it nowhere; you found your way didn't you?"
"And besides," he continued. "Didn't your boyfriend save you first period?"
A blush made its way to my cheeks at the mention of Bryan. "H-h-he's not my boyfriend."
A ping then went off, grabbing Reece's attention as he unfolded his arms and stared at his model of the latest iPhone, after a few taps he pushed off the car and made his way to the driver's side.
"Where are you going? Your parents expect you back in the study."
"Tell them I'm not coming." He responded as he opened the door.
"You can't leave me here alone with them," I said, low-key panicking as I watched him lower himself into the car and close the door with such care I didn't even know was possible.
I watched in horror as the car started and began to slowly reverse out of the driveway when it stopped, and the passenger window rolled down.
"Get in."
"Huh?" I asked in surprise.
He graced me with a bored expression. "Don't make me repeat myself."
Not even thinking about it, I immediately opened the door and entered the car and was just about to close it when Reece suddenly stopped me.
"Close it! Gently"
Frightened by his sudden order, I slowly and carefully brought the door to me, closing it in a way that was not too hard but hard enough that it was closed. After I did so, Reece let out a breath that he seemed to have been holding for far too long and leaned back in his seat comfortably before placing his hand behind my headrest and reversing with one hand on the steering wheel as he looked behind us.
I smirked, turning my face towards my window so that he couldn't see my expression.
So he was affected by what I did today. I thought, giving myself a pat on the back.
As we fully reversed out of the driveway and Reece switched gears driving on the road once again to wherever he was taking us, unbeknownst to myself, my smirk turned into a small smile. It was clear he had a very close attachment to his cars and treated them with extra care. Seeing him so bristled was rare, and for some odd reason, as I watched the different trees and houses pass by in a blur as the evening drew close, I couldn't help but think of how cute his reaction was.

End of Chapter.
I wonder where Reece and Paige are heading and who they may or may not meet?
This chapter is quite short but no worries because it's a double update.
