An inhumane noise that I didn't even know was possible passed through my lips as my head tilted back to look at the starless night sky. This must have been the bad thing that I felt would happen because nothing could be worse than Reece's current interest finding out about our arranged marriage.
"You have got to be kidding me," I muttered, then with a sigh, faced Max once again readying myself for the worst. "Ok, lay it on me."
"Remember when I said the whole match-made in heaven thing?"
I nodded.
"Well, Heather may have you under surveillance watch right now,"
My body relaxed. The marriage was still a secret, but it didn't change the fact that another problem was on our hands. If Heather had me under watch, that meant our plan to have me staying until the end to sneak to my room was ruined. The only question was... what would be the solution?
"Does Reece know?"
Max winced as if the question asked, caused him some great pain.
"Well, does he?" I asked, edging him to answer.
Max ran his hand aggressively through his hair as if at war with himself. "Shit, Paige, I tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't budge."
I narrowed my eyes at his evasiveness.
"Just spit it out, Max," I seethed.
Sighing in defeat, he complied. "He says you should crash at your friend's place tonight."
"I have a better idea, why doesn't he send her home and he crash there?"
"She's insisting on staying here."
This was ridiculous; I've been staying here for what? Five days? And already, I'm being kicked out so that he can accommodate and please his flavour of the month. Everything that had happened these past few days ran through my mind like a slideshow of how I had been continuously bending my back for his comfort.
It bubbled in the pit of my stomach, escaped through my lips, and before I knew it, I was laughing. I was laughing so hard, in fact, that I was pretty sure that Max and the few stragglers outside were staring at me as if I'd grown two heads. Wiping an imaginary tear from my eye, I managed to calm myself down.
I was so tired of this, and we haven't even begun.
I graced Max with a fake smile, my whole vibe for the party completely ruined. "I'm leaving, enjoy the rest of the party,"
Max reached out for me, "Paige."
Ignoring his silent plea for me not to take this to heart, I made my way inside and towards Rach and Amanda, who were on the dance floor having the time of their lives. Seeing my expression, they immediately stopped dancing and rushed to my side.
No words were exchanged, but they both knew exactly what I needed.
"Let's get out of here," Rachel offered as she took my arm, and Amanda followed closely behind.

"What a dick," Amanda said as we sat on the plush grey carpet that served as her room's flooring.
"I'm sorry that you guys had to leave the party so soon," We'd barely stayed there for two hours. Rachel waved off my apology as she dug into her bag of Doritos. "There's nothing to apologize for, I can't speak for Mands, but Heather's presence alone ruined the whole mood for me. If you hadn't stepped forward, I sure would have."
