Chapter 2

Skykit moved cautiously through the reeds. She was so scared. what if a badger came. or a fox or heron!! skykit thought. she shook the thought away and crawled father up river. she finally came to a little opening not far from camp. she looked over and peered into the river. she watched the water run pass her. she leaned forward to get a drink but suddenly she felt teeth meet her scruff and toss her away from the river. dazed she looked up and seen sleetster. her heart sank. "what were you doing" demanded sleetstar shoving his muzzle barely a mouse length away from her face. "uhh uhh just looking" stammered skykit tremmbeling with fear. "just looking, what if you of fallen in" snarled sleetstar. baring his long white fangs. "i wouldnt of because i had my claws dug into the soil" declared skykit. sleetstar closed his eyes and sighed and sat up. "i wont tell your mother about this if you promise to never sneak out of camp again. promise?" meowed sleetstar. "i promise" echoed skykit.

"I cant believe you actually went by the river!" gasped frogkit. "well it wasnt that scary" skykit meowed and gave herself and embarrassing lick on the shoulder. "well i dont believe it" growled oakkit. "im not lieing!" insisted skykit. "well its just so hard to believe that someone so small like you-" oakkit was interupted by sleetstar jumping up onto the highrock and calling the familiar call "let all clan cats old enough to swim please join here under the highrock for a clan meeting" the river clan cats gathered in the clearing. stormclaw padded over to his kits. "come on, raindapple is gonna miss the meeting. she got a seed in her eye" he meowed. what if he exiles me from the clan for sneaking out. thought skykit. the thought gave her shivers. "oakkit, mudkit step forward." meowed sleetstar. the two brown toms padded forward and sat in the front of the cats "oakkit from this moment on until you have earned your warrior name you shall be known as oakpaw. aspenfall you shall train oakpaw." aspenfall stepped forward and rested her nose on oakpaws forhead. "mudkit from this moment on until you have earned your warrior name you shall be known as mudpaw. stormclaw, you shall mentor mudpaw since your last apprentice has become a warrior." stormclaw rested his nose on mudpaws forhead. mudpaw, oakpaw, mudpaw, oakpaw. the clan cheered. they started to go congratulate the new apprientices. frogkit, ashkit and skykit scampered off towards the nursery. "thank starclan there not gonna be my denmates anymore!!" sighed frogkit loudly. "Well just give it another half moon and you will be his denmate again!" hissed heatherfern, oakpaws and mudpaws mother. she stalked out into the clearing. "oh my precious kits, someday you will be out there having your warrior ceromony" meowed raindapple returning from the medicine cats den. " yeah but it seems so far away!" whined ashkit. "maybe you could sleep it off my little ones" murmed raindapple nudging her 3 kits close to her belly, they staggered with tiredness. "mama?" yawned skykit. "yes my precious?" asked the queen. "will i be a warrior soon?" murmed skykit her eyes drooping with tiredness. "soon my precious kit, soon" whispered raindapple as she watch her kits fall asleep
