Chapter 4

Skypaw was sharing a sparrow with ashpaw. she had a long day exploring the territory. "are we still gonna go see frogkit?" mumbled skypaw glancing at ashpaw. " ya lets go" said ashpaw rising to his feet. the two apprentices padded towards the medicine cat den. they entered the den. but something was wrong... there was something in the air. suddenly something gently pushed them back out into tje clearing. ravenwing looked down at the two apprentices. " you cant see him today" she whispered. suddenly skypaw heard raindapple wail softly from inside the medicine cats den. "Whats wrong with him?" demanded ashpaw, taking a step forward. ravenwing looked down at him calmly. "frogkit has greencough" she meowed to skypaw and ashpaw. it felt like the ground was swaying beneath her. skypaw got dizzy. " Now now, dont get all worked up" skypaw felt ravenwing sit beside her. "he is going to be okay. i promise" ravenwing murmured and got to her paws and padded towards her den.

"no no nooo, you're gettin it all wrong" growled stonebird. "you have to slide then twist." he growled at skypaw. this was her 4th moon in training. "thats what im doing!" she hissed under her breath. "try it again" stonebird said. she sighed and rolled her eyes. "can i just go see frogkit." she asked. she hasn't been able to see him for a couple of sun rises, she has been busy with training. "okay. but i want you to clean out the elders bedding when you're done visiting" he meowed and padded towards camp. skypaw waited for a few minutes, she groomed her fur. "you know, your fur looks beautiful in the sunlight" meowed oakpaw padding up beside her. skypaw was used to his compliments. "leave me alone." skypaw growled stalking away. "wait, i need to tell you something" oakpaw said. skypaw turned around and he gazed into her blue eyes. "well?" hissed skypaw. breaking the silent. "nothing. go see frogkit" he murmured. looking away. skypaw headed towards camp. she got into the medicine cat clearing. raindapple came out at that moment. "be quiet, hes sleeping" she whispered and padded away. skypaw walked into the medicine cat den. ravenwing allowed vistors now since he is getting better. the den smelled sour. skypaw padded up to frogkit. he was curled up in his nest. his breathing shallow. skypaw curled up beside him. frogkit half-raised an eyelid. "skypaw..." he whispered. his voice raspy. "yes frogkit?" whispered skypaw. "im.... im sorry for.... for me not being able to train with you..." he rasped. "its okay. you will be better soon and we could train together then" skypaw whispered cheerfully to her littermate. frogkit closed his eyes and he fell back asleep. skypaw closed her eyes and curled closer to frogkit and dosed off

skypaw woke up. something wasnt right. she lifted her head and sniffed. the air... it smelled different. she relized frogkit was cold. she nudged him. "frogkit." skypaw whispered. he didnt move. she listened. no heartbeat. it was completely quiet. skypaw rose to her paws. "frogkit" she croaked. nudging him. she heard pawsteps behind her and seen ravenwing. "oh thank starclan you're here. frogkit is cold. should i get some more moss to keep him warm?" she asked ravenwing. she stared at skypaw with deep sadness in her eyes. "what. are we all out of moss. ill go get some feathers then" skypaw meowed. ravenwing got to her paws. "oh skypaw... im so sorry. but frogkit.... is dead." she whispered. sadness in her eyes. skypaw stared at her. "wat..." she whispered. ravenwing stared at her. sadness in her eyes. "im so sorry... i tried everything..." ravenwing explained. "NO!" wailed skypaw. she ran back towards frogkit and curled up next to him. "wake up frogkit. wake up.." she cried. nudging him. she felt a tear. she rested her head on frogkits and went into deep blackness
