Chapter 6

Derek's Pov:

It's been a week and she hasn't moved from the spot she ran to, after finding Frank's body. I got a hold of the precinct and found out Antonio's gang had done some awful things to her family. First, her father being killed by David Hernandez, then her mother ran off because she didn't want to be near the violence or near anyone close to Dani's father, including Dani, and now this her only other father figure dead. I have to say I feel sorry for her she's been through hell and back not including the troubled teen she turned into after her mother abandoned her, and before Frank took her in.

I glance at Dani and watch her as she's rolled up in a ball being engulfed by one of Frank's old leather jackets, as she lays by her other Mastiff, Rosie and by the looks of it who is very pregnant. Dani finally fell asleep, she has been dozing off every now and then but she keeps waking up screaming and crying for her father or Frank.

I walk out of the room and call the precinct to ask if she has any family or friends to care for her because I don't like being locked up and not able to do anything, even though I'm protecting her. I want to be out there and get the son of a bitch who started this, and if I just "accidentally" kill him it would make the world a better place even though the precinct would probably have enemies for life. It turned out Dani didn't have any close relatives, or close friends besides a girl named Sarah Ritzen, who turns out to be the only other girl in the precinct. The operator transferred my call to Sarah's burner, which she used since she was undercover as a bartender while eavesdropping on military arms dealer. The phone keeps ringing and I was afraid she wouldn't answer that on the last ring, a woman answered.
"Hello?" asked Sarah
"Um, hi my name is Derek Reynolds, I've been partnered with your friend agent Dani Syris, and I would like to notify you that Captain Frank Camwell passed away, and Dani isn't doing good, and I was wondering if it was possible to for you to leave your situation and come back?" I ask.
I heard her sigh through the phone and then mumble something along the lines of poor Frank.
" Yeah, I guess. I'm not supposed to, but my partner, Jeremy can handle it. I'll be there as soon as I can sneak away, bye" she said whispering into the phone.
And like that the line went dead. My phone starts to ring just as I set it down, I quickly answer, because I don't want to wake Dani.
"Hello?" I ask.
"Yes this is Alex Hatcher, and I was Frank's second command, and I'd like to tell you that there was a note in Frank's pocket, saying that Dani needs to give back what's rightfully there's?" Alex explains.
"Thanks for notifying me, but I wouldn't know what it is since I've only been her partner for a couple of days. I would like that you would keep me in the loop though, I have to go, but call me if you think I can help." and with that, I hang up.
Just as I got in a comfortable position on the couch, I heard a blood-curdling scream, Dani!
A/N sorry I haven't updated in a while I kind of lost interest, but I'll try to keep with it. Sorry for the short chapter I didn't plan this book out before I wrote it, so it might take me some time to update. I decided to update this as like an early Christmas present, hope you liked it.
