The Heart of a Mate: Chapter 14: The Wayward Son

Lauren's POV

I rolled over in Jay's arms, his muscles tightening around me in a protective embrace. "Morning baby." I simply mumbled back, my voice still too groggy to form actual words. "Come on, we gotta get up." I wanted to object. I wanted to lay in bed all day and fool around - while I knew he wouldn't hesitate to deliver, I knew I had to face the day.

Jay and I planned to make a trip to the house I allowed my parents to inhabit and find out exactly what the pendant was capable of...While I no longer feared my father, it still didn't stop the anxiety that formed at the thought of seeing them again after four years.

I sat up, the sheets falling away to expose my bare body, Jay appreciating the view from where he stood. Lust glinted in his eyes, just as they had the night before. "Nope, I'm still sore." I warned, my muscles fatigued after spending the previous night in bed with him.

He leaned against the doorframe in a dismissive manner, "Fine. Then you best take a shower cause you smell like sex."

"Yeah - I bet." I smirked and tried to hide the discomfort as I walked to the bathroom. "Such an ass." I muttered.

"Oh, you like it too?" I turned to Jay admiring himself in the mirror jokingly. I smiled and let out a small chuckle.

"Lauren, would you like me to prepare the bath?" One of the girls asked from the doorway, surprising Jay. He let out a small yelp and moved to cover himself.

"Yes please." I answered, knowing my nudity had no effect on her. And honestly, her seeing me as no effect either, I was already accustomed to the girls seeing me in the buff.

"Lauren, what the hell?" Jay asked once she had finished and left to fetch fresh towels. "Who is she?"

I shrugged, "She's one of my nurse maids."

"...one of?" He repeated.

"Yeah, I have eight or so - they all cater to a specialty." I stepped into the water, the warmth relaxing me. "Come on, get in."

He hesitated for a moment before complying. "You mean your mother didn't care for you when you were young?" He was still new to the way of the Sayrin household, so I couldn't blame him for having a few questions of his own.

"My mother hardly left the Sayrin's side actually." I paused, remembering the childhood I would rather forget. "The only time I really saw them was during events or when I was being punished." Sometimes I missed them so much that I would get in trouble on purpose - even if our meeting only meant pain for me.

"I'm sorry." He took my hand in the water to comfort me, only I didn't need it - not anymore.

I shook my head. "Don't be." I moved to be against his chest, my hand starting at his neck and ending at his rock hard dick. My hole was really in no shape to please him but that didn't stop me from taking a breath and disappearing under the water. I took him into my mouth and felt him groan as my tongue slid down his shaft. I fondled his balls with my fingers, feeling his muscles relax - only to contract again. My lungs began to scream for air but I forced myself to continue. He slid halfway down my throat with ease and began to buck. A hot rush of warmth exploded and I swallowed. Jay's chest was heaving when I resurfaced and I couldn't help but smile.

We rode to the outskirts in the same carriage I rode in when I was required to attend Pyro's 'coming out' party. My eyes darted in every direction, not staying focused on any one thing for too long. "Calm down."

"It's not that easy." I whined a bit. "Last time I saw them, he said I wasn't fit to rule and my mother obviously hates you ."

He looked a bit hurt. "Why - What did I do?"

I scooted closer to him, my lips just centimeters from his, "Because you were born with a baby-maker instead of a baby-carrier."

"That hardly seems like a reason to hate me." He smiled smugly. The carriage came to a halt with the slight creaking of old wood.

I opened the door and stepped out, the sun shining down and bringing the display in front of me to life. The front walk of the house was lined with red snap dragons and yellow daisies, the rest just an array of multicolored flowers. My mother was sitting on the porch, her hair pulled up and tied behind her head. She stood as we neared, her eyes glinting with a smile. "Lauren, you've grown so much." I embraced her, her body seeming fragile under my touch.

"You know Jay -" I introduced my mate without addressing her directly, unsure of what to actually call her. Was I supposed to call her 'mother', or 'Lellie'? It all seemed inappropriate. She threw her arms around him and he froze, silently questioning the unforeseen gesture. I cleared my throat, "Where's father?"

She pulled her hands close to her stomach, the lose fabric of her shirt now pulled tight. "He's in the parlor."

"A-Are you pregnant?" I couldn't pull my eyes away.

She smiled and caressed her swollen belly lovingly. "Four months."

"Why?" I asked bluntly. I had had a horrible childhood and I wouldn't wish it on any child.

She looked at me with a protective glare. "I want a chance to do it right - I didn't do right by you but this baby will be different."

"I thought it was damn near impossible to be impregnated with a hybrid offspring..."

I gave Jay my best exasperated look. "...really?"

He smiled back coyly. "I did say 'damn near'."

"Parlor - you said?" She shook her head and led me into the house.

"I can feel it - you know...This is the baby that I'll carry till full term."

I stopped and looked back at her, her eyes watering over at a memory I didn't know about. "'This baby' will?" I mimicked.

She bit the edge of her lip, "I've already lost twelve babies Lauren." I moved to hug her as she began to break down.

"Lellie?" My father's voice echoed from down the hall. "Lellie, what the hell are you crying about-" He had walked into the hhall and we were now face to face, both of use speechless.
