EDITED
CLARKE'S POV
Another year, another car ride to another foster home, and hopefully, my last. This is my eleventh home since my parents died when I was four. I'm turning eighteen in a few months and when I do I am out of the foster system and free to go and do whatever I want. After fourteen years in the system, I am ready to be out.
As we're pulling up to the house, a car backs out of the driveway and speeds past us. We then pull into said driveway and park. I take this time to take a look at the house I'm going to be staying at for a while. From the outside it looks beautiful, the inside must be ten times as gorgeous.
"Are you sure we have we right house?" I ask my social worker, Raven. She's like a mom to me and she has been there since the beginning.
"Yeah, I'm sure sweetheart." She says slightly giggling and shaking her head. "It is definitely nicer than the ones you've been at before. Are you ready?"
"When am I ever ready for this, Raven?"
"Right, sorry I asked honey. I know it never gets easier."
"You're right about that." We sit in silence before I speak up again, "We should probably head inside."
"Yeah, I guess." We both unbuckle and climb out of Raven's car. I grab my small duffle of clothes before meeting Raven at the front door.
Raven and I take a deep breath before she rings the doorbell. A few moments later, a middle-aged woman opens the door.
"Hi I'm Aurora Blake, you must be Clarke," she said extending her hand to me.
"Yeah that's me," I say with a fake smile plastered on my face, shaking her hand, as if I had a choice to come here. I would've much rather stayed with Raven but they wouldn't allow that so here I am.
"Please come inside," Mrs. Blake opens the door wider and motions for us to come in. We walk in and look around the entryway as she closes the door behind us. Here goes another one.
+++++++++++
Mrs. Blake showed us all around the house and it wasn't like any other foster homes I'd been in before. None were ever so... Elegant. Most were kinda run down and they were never this big. It was a beautiful two-story house on its own little plot of land just on the outskirts of Arkadia, Missouri.
She showed us the living room, kitchen, dining room, (yes there are two separate rooms for cooking and eating, crazy right?), guest bedroom, and the laundry room... And that's just downstairs. Upstairs are all the bedrooms.
Lastly, she showed me my room. I was staying in a shared room with my new foster sister with a bathroom connecting to another bedroom in between. Mrs. Blake told me that it belonged to my new foster brother. She also told me that my foster brother and I are seniors while my foster sister is a junior at Mount Weather High School so I'm assuming we're all about the same age. I take a small bag for school out of my duffle before throwing the duffle on the floor of my new room and close the door as I walk out.
"So what do you think?" Mrs. Blake asks kindly as we make our way back down the stairs and to the front entrance.
"It's amazing," I replied excitedly, this time really excited. I was actually excited about a foster home for once, I have a good feeling about it.
"Great! Now you have to get to school. I've already enrolled you in Mount Weather High School just a couple miles down the road. Just go visit Principle Jaha when you get there and he'll give you your schedule and a map of the school." Mrs. Blake says.
"Cool," I reply blandly, slinging my bag over my shoulder. School, not excited about that. Another new school, lucky me. Just then Raven pipes up.
"I'll drop you off on my way out of town."
"Thanks," I reply, looking back to Mrs. Blake, "How am I getting home? " I ask.
"You will take the school bus home, but it's just for today. Take bus #152, it will drop you off at the end of the driveway. You should be able to recognize the house. But after today, your foster brother will drive you to and from school. You will meet him and your foster sister tonight." She responds quickly.
"OK, I will see you after school, Mrs. Blake-"
"Please, call me Aurora," she interrupts.
"OK. See you after school, Aurora. Raven, we should get going."
"Let's go then. Bye Aurora, take good care of Clarke. She's a good girl." Raven responds, turning around to open the door.
"Don't worry, I will," Aurora says causing Raven to turn back around, a smile appearing on both of their features. Yeah, I'm really gonna like her.
"Thank you. Clarke, we should really get going." Raven says turning around once again and walking out the door. I shoot Aurora one last smile before following Raven out, closing the door behind me.
