It’s been about 3 months since Christine “recruited” us; we were so shocked until we realized the conditions.

“So you’ll sign a contract with us…as a cover band.” Audrey repeats as Christine sat down to explain everything. “So if we sing any original songs…?”

“They won’t be produced and if you guys do produce them, then your contract will be dropped.” Christine confirms. She notices our hesitant expressions and folds her hands together on the table. “Listen, I know small bands like you want to start big and instantly start writing their own material. But that’s not going to happen because my boss is only offering you a yearlong contract. He only wants you guys as an opening act for another band; your image is similar to theirs. If I were you, I’d take that opportunity to get my name out. Then if my boss likes you guys, he’ll offer you a 5 year contract and you get to write your own music.”

Truthfully, we didn’t want to be a cover band, but Christine had made a lot of sense. We wanted to make it big. We have all graduated high school already and have forsaken college to follow our dreams. If we wanted to get our names out, this was one great way to do it.

“I don’t care…” I said, voicing my opinion. “…as long as I’m with my sisters.”

I glance at Marie and Renae who in turn look over at Audrey. Her eyebrows were knitted together as she stared at the contract on the table then glanced up at Christine.

“You’ve got yourself a cover band.”

“Come onnnnnnn, Christine!” I nag as I plopped down on the couch next to Christine and nudge her. “Which band are we opening for?”

Christine continued to ignore me before I got on my knees and widened my black brown almond eyes at her. Christine glanced at me and sighed while rolling her eyes at me.

“Really, puppy dog eyes? Real mature for a 17 year old…” She mumbles before going back to her papers.

“Please Christine, I really want to know!” I beg as Christine twirls her curls in annoyance and glances at the watch on her wrists.

“You’ll find out when the rest of the members get here. Where are they anyways?”

“I don’t know, usually I’m the late one.” I commented as I leaned back on the couch. “And besides, we’ve trained and recorded with you for 3 whole months without asking who we’re opening for.”

“Yuka, be patient, it’s a virtue.” She huffed before glancing at her watch again.

“Then you can have it…”I muttered as Christine glared at me and the door to the studio swung open.

            “SORRY WE’RE LATE!”

            “AUDREY’S A SLOW DRIVER!”

            “PLEASE DON’T KILL US!”

Audrey, Marie, and Renae yelled as Christine rolled her eyes again and tried to control her temper.

“Whatever, just sit down so I can start with our schedules for the day.” Christine passed out our schedules and then seated herself on a comfy chair. She crossed her legs then opened her MAC laptop to type some things in. “Okay, today’s more of a breather day for you guys, but not for me. The company has finalized the arrangement with the band you’ll be opening for. But they have rules.”
