We were all spending Christmas together, our North American tour was almost over but we still had a few more concerts and One Direction couldn’t fly home to visit their families. Audrey, Marie, and Renae have also resorted to Skyping their families and mailing presents.
“Yuka, say hi to my mom!” Audrey calls me over as I grin into her laptop at Audrey’s mom’s smiling face.
“MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
“Merry Christmas to you too, Dear, I hope Audrey hasn’t been any trouble.”
“Mom!”
I laugh and give Audrey a bear hug, “Quite the opposite, Audrey’s the mother hen in our group.”
I leave Audrey to finish her conversation with her mom and glance at my phone. Should I call my brother? I didn’t like my family, scratch that, I hated my family. I never went home for holidays or birthdays, only occasionally calling my brother. I never want to see their faces. I bit my lip and dialed my brother’s cellphone number.
“Merry Christmas, Yuka.” His voice is deeper.
“Hey Alec, Merry Christmas, your voice is really deep now.” I commented and I hear a small laugh from the other end.
“Yeah, I’m 14 and its called puberty.”
“Ew, 14 is also the age for sass and back talking.” I joke, I hear Alec laugh again. “So…how is everything?”
“Mom and Dad are fine.”
“I wasn’t asking about Mother or Father.” I said, my voice losing all its warmth. Alec sighs on the other end and his voice quiets down.
“Yuka, please…” He pleads. “They’re still your parents…”
“I’m busy, Alec. I’ll call you some other time.” I say, not wanting to talk about this with my brother. My brother’s quiet then I hear him mumble on the other end.
“Yeah, you’ll call on the next holiday.” Then he hangs up. I balance my phone on my knee and stare at the ceiling. Alec was never the target, that’s why he’ll never understand. He’ll never understand why I hate our parents so much.

“MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!” Louis yells as he jumps on our couch with a large bag of presents. “St. Louis is here to pass out presents!”
We all laugh at Louis and gather around the couches, handing each other presents. Our hotel room was pretending to be to have Christmas spirit with handmade paper snowflakes Marie and Audrey painstaking made, red and green streamers Renae and I bought from the store, and our IPad on the table with a Christmas tree App pulled up. I handed out the presents I got for everyone but kept two boxes with me as I sat down next to Niall and wrapped the green scarf around his neck and then giving him a kiss on the lips.
“Merry Christmas,” I said as Niall hands me a small green box. I open it to see a bracelet of silver infinity symbols linked together.
“Merry Christmas, Love.” He says, putting the bracelet on my left wrist and then pulling me close for a kiss.
“Whoa, snogging in public now!” Zayn shouts from across the room. “That means its official! We should celebrate with some pints!”
“Well, its Christmas, so of course we have beer.” Renae says as she holds up a few bottles of beer. I’m always wondering where they buy the alcohol.
“Hey, babe I’m going to get a pint, want one?” Niall asks as he kisses me on the cheek. Out of the corner of my eye I notice Harry head to the balcony and I shake my head.
“Nah, its fine.” I say with a smile as Niall kisses me one more time before heading over to drink. I hold the last box in my hand and head to the balcony.
“Hazza.” I say as I poke my head out the balcony door. Harry glances over and cracks a smile.
“I haven’t heard you call me that in a while.”
I walk out onto the balcony with him and lean against the railing. “Yeah, we’ve been a little distant towards each other, haven’t we?”
Harry nods and then turns back to watching the dark sky with the lights of the city scattered around like fallen stars. It’s quiet between us, but not the comfortable we’re both use to, this one was awkward, just waiting to be broken with awkward dialogue.
“I didn’t sleep with her.” Awkward dialogue like that. Harry stares at me with his marble green eyes, waiting for my reaction. I’m glad you didn’t. I wanted to say that, but of course I didn’t.
“It doesn’t matter to me.” I reply, staring back into his eyes. He looks so sad to me right now, his piercing green eyes were glassy and his usual smirking lips were turned down.
“Merry Christmas, Harry.” I said, handing him the small white box. He opens it and takes the white bracelet in his hand. “It’s a friendship bracelet.”
I hold up my right wrist, there was a matching white bracelet on. “You’re very important to me, Harry, you’re my best friend. I don’t want to lose you.”
Harry nods and gives me a sad smile, then hands the bracelet to me. “Put it on for me?”
I take it and tie it around his right wrist, matching mine. He holds his wrist up, observing the bracelet before pulling me in for a hug. I feel my heart race and I squeeze my eyes shut before hugging him back, feeling the warmth of his body against mine.
“I don’t want to lose you, either.” He says.

After the Christmas Party, the boys returned to their hotel room down the hall and Renae and Marie stumbled to bed, drunk, while Audrey picked up some trash before going to bed. I lay in bed on my stomach with my laptop sitting in front of me. I unwrapped Harry’s present which he had given to me after the hug, it was a CD. I didn’t have a CD player so I put the disc into my laptop and plugged my large orange headphones in, afraid that I might wake Renae who shared a room with me. There was only one song on the CD. I clicked it and a familiar guitar tune fills my ears. It was my song, the one I had played for Harry on the phone. I listened to the strums of the acoustic and then the soft humming of Harry’s voice. This sounded very professional, like he had recorded it in a studio.
No words needed
I hear you loud and clear
Your voice is intertwined in my heart
No worlds needed
He had added lyrics to the song; I close my eyes and listen to his deep soothing voice as I drift to sleep.
Our comfort, no relation can describe
Our silence, deeper than words
No words needed

(HARRY’S POV)
I lay in bed, staring at the white bracelet she gave me. She said, she never wanted to lose me. But she also said I was her best friend. I sighed and ran my hand against the intricate pattern the strings made, feeling a cold sliver on a part of my wrist. I turned the bracelet inside out on my wrist and there were small metal words tied in with the pattern.
Breathe.
