You’re insecure, don’t know what for.
When Audrey, Marie, Renae, and I arrived at rehearsal; the boys were already starting to rehearse. They were on stage singing to an imaginary audience as other people hurried about trying to get ready for tonight’s concert. Marie and Renae went to put their stuff with Lou and our stylist as Audrey and I stayed behind to admire the location. The place was HUGE, with rows of seats filling the place. So this is what it’s like to be a popular musician.
“This is breath taking…” Audrey whispers, her face is glowing and her hazel eyes sparkling. “I’ve always hoped we’d make it this big.”
I smile and wrap my arms around her. “This is just the beginning Aud, we’re going to be BIGGER after breaking out of being a cover band. Just you wait.”
Audrey laughs and hugs me back, nodding towards the stage. “I just hope we have as much stage presence as they do.” I unwrap my arms and look at the stage.
Baby, you light up my world like nobody else.
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed.
But when you smile at the ground, it ain’t hard to tell.
Harry was singing his solo as the boys stood in formation; heads bobbing to the music and scanning the arena. I watch the intensity in Harry’s eyes and feel a smile form on my lips. He really likes the feeling of being on stage, the feeling that everyone’s listening as he sings.
“Girls, get ready, your rehearsal is next after this number.” Someone says to us as they hand Audrey a clipboard and then disappears. Audrey glances as me then scans the sheet on the clipboard.
“Okay, get your acoustic ready Yuka. We’re doing Drive By, by Train first.” Audrey informs me as I nod and head over to where Renae and Marie were with our stuff. I couldn’t shake off the feeling of someone watching me as I walk.

“Ready?” Renae checks as I strum a few strings on my acoustic to make sure it was still in tune. I swallow the lump in my throat and seat myself on the stool next to her. I had a small solo in Drive By, so the producers thought it would be easier if I was in the front with Renae instead of the side. Renae nodded at me before sitting in her stool, we watched the guy from the sound booth give us a thumbs up as I start strumming my guitar.
On the other side of a street I knew
Stood a boy that looked like you
I guess that’s déjà vu
But I thought this can’t be true
I started singing into the mike in front of me as Renae nodded her head to the beat of my guitar strums and the beat of Audrey’s drums. There wasn’t a bass in this part so Marie was also on an acoustic strumming harmony.
Oh I was overwhelmed and frankly scared as hell
Because I really fell for you
Then Renae started to sing. I could tell that she already captivated many of the busy workers with her old soul voice. I wasn’t a bad singer, I was good. But I didn’t have a voice like Renae’s. From my stool on stage I could see the boys sitting in the audience watching us practice. Liam was talking to Zayn with Louis interrupting here and there to make funny comments that they all laugh to, Niall was bobbing his head to my guitar chords, and Harry just stared intently at us. I guess he was captivated by Renae too. I could feel my heart drop a little and almost forgot to sing the last words with Renae.
