~ Five Years Later ~
I glanced at my reflection in the mirror one last time to make sure that everything was perfect. Thankfully, not a hair was out of place and Whitney had been right about getting my makeup done professionally. It was definitely worth the money I'd spent on it and the makeover made me look amazing.
"Stop fussing over yourself, girl," Bree's bubbly voice called from beside my dress. "You look fine. Now come here so we can get you into this thing!"
I sighed and walked to where Whitney and Bree were smiling at the dress they'd helped me pick out. Nikki was running around somewhere helping to get everything ready and Tori was nearby but not the kind of girl to fawn over a dress. Even if it did happen to be my wedding dress.
"I can't believe you're finally marrying Matt!" Whitney gushed.
"Took you long enough," Bree piped in.
I laughed. "Just because I fell in love with him doesn't mean he felt the same way about me. It just took a while for me to be sure of his feelings."
"You had his children," Tori said. "If that doesn't prove to a guy you love him I don't know what does!"
I rolled my eyes. "But that doesn't mean that the guy loves a girl back."
"Matt has been in love with you since before you realized he was a guy," Whitney complained.
"I've always known he was a guy," I shot back.
She groaned. "Bree, deal with her, will you?"
Bree sighed dramatically. "Girl, forget about the past for a minute and get into this dress. The ceremony is going to start without you if you don't hurry!"
As I was walking down the aisle I felt a thousand butterflies in my stomach. I had the urge to run away but held onto my father's arm tighter and took and deep breathe. I looked towards the end of the aisle where the minister was waiting and saw Matt smiling at me. His smile was so infectious I couldn't help but smile back at him.
Jasper and Sebastian were smiling by his side and my attention was drawn to how big they were, my five year old princes. They looked adorable in their little tuxes and their blue ties brought out the blue in their eyes. It seemed like just yesterday I was wishing for a baby and now I had two wonderful sons that were my everything. Well, them and their father.
The ceremony passed by in a flash and before I knew it the "I do's" had been said and I was kissing Matt in front of everyone I cared about enough to invite.
The reception was something I shouldn't have expected to run smoothly. I wouldn't say that everything was calm but I could admit that it was peaceful. It was running smoother than I could have ever expected. That is, until Whitney stood to make a speech.
"Everyone here knows the story of the two people sitting here tonight as man and wife. They all know that my brother had a giant crush on Claire before she even noticed his existence." Many people chuckled at this including Matt who then proceeded to kiss me to prove how much that had changed. I pulled away after a second as a blush crept into my cheeks but I was smiling like a fool. "However, most of you haven't heard another story. One that I'm sure Claire has all but forgotten about."
My eyes widened and the smile faded slightly as I realized what Whitney was about to do. "Don't you dare!"
"Dare what, Mommy?" Sebastian asked.
She widened her eyes innocently. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I'm warning you, don't do it, Whit. I told you nothing good would happen if you brought this up."
"You don't want to make Mommy mad," Jasper stage whispered to Whitney.
Matt's hand slipped into mine. "What are you talking about?" he whispered in my ear.
"I'll explain later," I whispered back squeezing his hand slightly.
"All I was going to do was bring up this," Whitney said unaware of the side conversation between Matt and myself. She held up a book I thought I'd never see again.
"I'm in that book!" Bree said rather loudly.
Whitney laughed slightly. "Yup and so are Claire and Matt, right Claire?"
If Matt hadn't been holding my hand I probably would have gone over the table at Whitney while everyone stared at her captivated.
"You see," she said turning to face the room. "You all know Claire is both an editor and an author in her own right. This book I'm holding is the very first book that she had published. It describes in great detail how two people, Chris and Tammy, get together. Now it doesn't sound suspicious but you need to understand the little things about the book. Like the fact that Chris's family is identical to Matt's and mine and Tammy is best friends with Chris' older sister Ashley. They're also best friends with a girl called Dee who just so happens to be exactly like Bree. Chris is even two and a half years younger than Ashley which is the age difference between Matt and myself. There are many other things that relate this story to life but the main point I'm trying to tell you is that Claire wrote this book when she was eighteen, way before anything happened with Matt."
"Is she serious?" Matt asked me in a whisper.
I felt myself blushing as I nodded slightly.
Whitney smiled at me. "I know you wanted it to be kept a secret but I just had to share this story with Matt and everyone else here. It's such a sweet story and it shows that even when you thought you didn't feel anything for Matt you were still thinking about him. You have to admit that it's the perfect story to bring up tonight."
I sighed and rolled my eyes. "It was only because you and your whole family were always talking about him around me."
Whitney laughed as Matt pulled me onto his lap. "I'm glad they did because all of their teasing finally brought you to me."
Everyone that was gathered, our two families and all of our friends, cheered like crazy as Matt kissed me deeply enough that I felt like I'd float away if he ever let go.
