"Akaashi!" It was a cold, rather gray day, the sky overhead threatened to empty itself on Akaashi Keiji as he walked to school. However, the gloomy weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of his teammate.

"Good morning Bokuto-san." Akaashi replied in his usual calm manner, as the energetic spiky haired third year bounced up beside him.
"We have a practice match today right?" Bokuto asked, grinning in anticipation.
"Yeah," Akaashi replied. "It's against a strong school too. Your spikes might get blocked."
"Alright!" Bokuto cheered, seemingly unaffected by this news. "We're gonna win!" He pumped his fist in the air, before running ahead to talk to some third years.
"Don't tire yourself out before the match!" Akaashi called after him, but the older boy didn't seem to notice. Sighing, Akaashi walked into the school building and into a second year classroom.

                               ----------------------------------------------

"Akaashi! Toss it to me!" Bokuto called out, ready to attack. Akaashi positioned himself under the ball, raising his arms above his head. He pushed the heft of the ball through his fingertips, sending it into the air in front of Bokuto. Three blockers on the other side of the net jumped up to meet him. The ball sailed from Bokuto's palm to one of the blockers outstretched fingers, and fell to the floor, Komi barely missing the ball. "Damnit!" Bokuto muttered loudly. Of course he muttered loudly, he did everything loudly. "One more!"
"Okay, Bokuto-san." Akaashi said, as the ref blew the whistle for the opposing team's server.  He better not get dejected again Akaashi thought irritably. With midterm exams coming nearer and nearer, he seemed to find himself feeling irritable a lot lately. The opposing server hit the ball into play, Konoha jumping a bit to the side to receive it. The ball flew into the air.
"Sorry, cover!" Konoha called, as Akaashi ran to get the ball, which was a bit short.
"Bokuto-san!" Akaashi called as the ball flew towards his teammate. The ball was forcefully redirected into the blocker's hands, and again, fell to the floor with a thump. Here we go again. Akaashi thought, as Bokuto glared disappointedly at the ground.
"Akaashi." Bokuto began to say, while his teammates groaned in the background. "Don't toss to me any more!" His usually spiky hair began to floomf down, almost like feathers. Akaashi sighed, knowing the other team was glancing at them, clearly confused.
"Alright. Please take time to calm down, Bokuto-san." Akaashi said, like he had hundreds of times before. He could hear the excited whispers from the other team along the lines of 'this is our chance'.
"Again?" Konoha complained. "Not that it matters, but still. It's kind of annoying."
"Well, when Bokuto gets dejected like this, it's our job to keep things running smoothly." A third year, Washio said.
Again and again, Akaashi set the ball to one of the spikers. Despite Bokuto meandering around the court, Fukurodani still pulled ahead of the other team. Akaashi knew they were confused, with the ace defeated, how could they still be so strong? Either way, Akaashi could tell that Bokuto was beginning to perk up. "About time." He muttered under his breath, as the ball flew over to their side of the net.
"Chance ball!" Komi called out, as he cleanly received it and sent it towards Akaashi. Akaashi raised his arms above his head in preparation to set it, when a small voice at the back of his mind spoke up. Why should I toss it to him? All he does is make more work for the rest of us. Can't he just play like a normal person without getting all dejected? Akaashi felt the ball graze his fingertips. Crap, I hesitated, he thought, as he forced the ball into the air by Bokuto.
"Sorry!" He called out, as the ball went to high. Bokuto barely sent the ball over the net, just out of reach of the other team's libero.
"Alright! Don't mind, Akaashi!" The other boy said to Akaashi. Like you're one to say that, you just came back. Akaashi thought, but he quickly shoved the thoughts to the back of his mind. It was just a stressful day, that's all. He shouldn't be taking out his irritability on his teammates. "One more!" Bokuto yelled, raising his hand as Akaashi set the ball to him again. As the ball hit the ground, the ref's whistle blew loudly.
        "Game over."
"Alright!" Bokuto cheered loudly, pumping his fists in the air. "Did you see that spike, Akaashi?! None of the blockers could touch it!"
"I saw it." Akaashi said, "It was great."
         "Yes!" Bokuto cheered again.
"We still have to line up." Akaashi reminded him, as his teammates began to file into a line across from the opponent team.
        "Thank you very much!"
"Akaashi!" Bokuto called after him as he left the gym. "Want to stay behind and practice spikes with me?"
"Sorry, Bokuto-san." He replied, "I have a lot of homework to do tonight. You should to, with midterms coming up and all."
"Oh, right." The older boy said. "I guess you're right." He sighed, before waving to Akaashi as he left. "See you tomorrow then!" He said cheerfully.
"Right." Akaashi said, walking down the road towards the train station. He sighed, thinking of all the homework he had to do tonight. "I'm too easily annoyed right now." He muttered to himself. "I have to remember to get some sleep too."
                                     ----------------------------------------------
Bokuto hated doing homework. Even though it was late at night, he was completely restless. His mind kept wandering off, thinking about what it would be like if he were an owl, or the volleyball match in the afternoon. Even when he did focus, when he saw how much progress he had made, he wanted to break his pencil and scream. Sighing, Bokuto put his head down on the open textbook, hoping somehow it would make the tedious work go by faster, when his phone buzzed. He glanced down at it. A text from Kuroo Tetsurou read:
        "Oyaoyaoya?"
Bokuto grinned, quickly replying to the text, when another message popped up.
"You do realize this is a group chat, right?"
He immediately recognized Akaashi's number, feeling a slight bit of guilt.
"Sorry, Akaashi!" He replied, "We'll let you get back to your homework."
"It's fine." Akaashi replied. "I fell asleep, so the sound woke me up. Just don't do it again. Also, I would recommend you do your homework as well."
Bokuto glanced at the textbook that was still lying open on his desk. He switched his phone off, then tried to concentrate on what was written. He lasted about five minutes before giving up, and going to bed. (Me though lmao)
                                     ----------------------------------------------
Akaashi glanced down at his homework through bleary eyes. Nine problems left to go. His hand was cramping up from writing so much, but if he finished this, he would be done. It was the longest nine problems of his life. Several times, he found himself nodding off, and it seemed to take an hour to refocus himself each time. Finally, he set his pencil down and closed the textbook. He was to tired to glance at the clock to see how late he had stayed up before collapsing onto his bed and falling asleep.
                                     ----------------------------------------------
By some miracle, Akaashi managed to get three hours of sleep that night. However, once he got to school, that felt like absolutely nothing. Yawning sleepily as he made his way to his classroom, he suddenly heard a loud familiar voice coming up behind him. "Akaashi, good morning!"
"Good morning, Bokuto-san." Akaashi said with as much energy as he could muster. He was partially aware of Bokuto blinking at him observantly.
"You look really tired." He observed.
"I didn't get much sleep last night." Akaashi replied sleepily, "I was doing homework."
"Well that's not good." Bokuto stated matter of factly, "We need our setter at full energy for practice today."
"Don't worry, I'll be fine." Akaashi said reassuringly. The older boy's face lit up.
"Great!" Bokuto said excitedly. "Hey, Akaashi, can you stay behind today and help me practice my spikes?"
"Sure, Bokuto-san." Bokuto beamed at this news.
"Alright! Thanks Akaashi!" He said, waving. "Bye." Akaashi waved after him, before entering his classroom.

"Alright, class is started!" His teacher said, before diving into some long lecture about sentence structures and what not. Akaashi found himself beginning to drift off. He glanced outside the window, thinking of something he immediately forgot. He glanced towards the front of the classroom, where the teacher was still rambling, when his eyes began to cross. He quickly rubbed them, and tried to pay attention again.
"Akaashi-kun. Akaashi-kun!" He sat upright with a start. Most people in the class were looking at him. "Do you need to go to the nurse's office?" His teacher asked.
"No, sorry." Akaashi said, slightly embarrassed. Damnit, I fell asleep, he thought. I must be more tired than I thought. His teacher gave him a hesitant glance before continuing their lecture. Practice might be hard today...
