Chapter 2🌛

Chaos reveled within the city walls as men, women and children scattered in fear. Panicking, confused.

"Run! Run!" they yelled.

More loud thumps shook the foundations of the earth as the building beneath me collapsed within itself.

"Help! Somebody please, help us!"

As I leaped onto the next building, I caught a glimpse of a silhouette figure with bright yellow eyes towering over a helpless little boy. The boy's mother was holding whatever fight she could against the beast, even in her battered, bruised state.

Suddenly a ball of fur rammed the wolf right off its feet from the blindside, with tremendous pace, gone in a split second. The beast raced on, brushing aside any intruding wolves like a rampart bull. But ahead of me stood a beast more formidable. It had ripped the city walls wide open with its serpent head towering just above, easily picking apart the men trying to fight it. Several dozen wolves poured into the city through the breach, tearing men with sharp claws as limbs flew in all directions.

"Itchy feet!" One of the soldiers called out midst the chaos. A young male with dark hair and a long golden sword, General Vorn.

"The man with the golden blade," as the king put it earlier.

Beside him was a white figure of a boy, almost like a ghost guiding the general towards us. The ghost's face resembled that of the boy who stood with the Princess at the palace entrance. Complete with a bald head, and strange markings on the forehead. He vanished into thin air not long after.

"You and the Gorguem take care of the Sknarle. Make sure it does not proceed into the city! Me and my men will take care of this dog scum," he said.

The Gorguem shook a wolf trying to dig its teeth into her flesh. Though she seemed to be shaking a lot more than just the wolves. She was battling her conscious, to obey, since we had left the king's side.

One of the wolves quickly came at me in a flash with raw ferocity. I was faster however. I stretched to block with my right, cracked a few ribs with a knee before snapping its neck with a spin kick.

"Okay?" the general seemed impressed, "Proceed."

I turned to look at my foe's formidable figure, it had its eyes set on me for some reason. Its eyes pried straight into the depths of my heart, its hiss gave me chills under my skin. Its shear size was well apparent. But the Gorguem was already leaping onto the beast without hesitation. We had no room for weakness to have a chance against the creature, no room for fear.

I followed her lead closely as she paved a way through the wolves, but we could not get within striking range. Boulders and boulders of earth streamed at us relentlessly as we advanced, we could not avoid all of them. One particular chunk knocked the senses out of me, right before the creature's tail swept the both of us into the unforgiving earth. I lost my breath and my vision for a second, drifting.

"Kou, Kou..." I heard a woman's soft whisper call out to me again as I drifted.

As I regained my senses, a giant boulder was rushing at me intently. Just in the nick of time. The gorguem girl had already picked herself up and was quickly charging with a second wave. Her fearlessness was envious, but also costly. Especially against such type of foe. Our terrible coordination did little to help us either.

The Sknarle sent the Gorguem crashing into the earth beside me again, in a similar fashion. Consequently, a giant boulder was chucked at us immediately.

I took a deep breath. Dug deep for more strength. My legs felt a warm rush of power like an erupting volcano from within, focused. Letting go, I exploded towards the boulder with the power rush, crushing it into dust with my legs.

I looked at the gorguem beast puffing in the dirt, wondering if she would ever listen. Her reckless abandon was envious, costly and a well worthy distraction for the beast.

"Distract it."

She dusted herself off as if to agree with me, puffing her nostrils.

Suddenly she charged at the Sknarle again, this time less direct. I used the moment to run towards the wall quickly. Bracing myself, I leaped onto the wall, every foot digging into brick for leverage as I ran up. The Sknarle still had its sights set on me however, as a stream of boulders barely missed me by inches. The gorguem was advancing towards the beast more rapidly now, using me as the distraction.

She drew its more immediate attention. Lucky for us this time she anticipated the tail whip to perfection, but not the second tail.

The Sknarle sprung a surprise from deep within the earth as we quickly realized that most of the creature was still buried deep within the earth.

However the creatures momentary lapse gave me enough time for a strike. Its head vied back onto the wall again, nothing. I had launched myself into the air. My legs cut the wind with my very own sinister hiss. My foot met the creatures head with an exploding impact that sent the creature crashing down into the earth with a shrill.

Thud!

The creature burrowed itself into the ground to recuperate, this was not over.

Suddenly another sharp howl ripped the air apart from within the city. All the surviving wolves retreated back through the wall with haste. Only a few moments later- the night spell broke as the light expelled darkness from the sky.

The masses were filled with cheers and delirium for the victory. A victory some people seemed to be crediting to me and the gorguem girl. But my gut knew it was not our doing. The Gorguem moaned and groaned as she shrunk back into a girl in the nude. But she was still raving in pain as I approached to hand her my shirt.

"Something is wrong," she moaned.

"General Vorn!" Another rider came riding in with grief tearing his face seconds later, "It's the king..."
