Cresswell
Cress woke up with a jolt, the nightmare playing over and over in her head. Over and over she felt the cool metal of the gun in her hand, the pull of the trigger, and then the sight of Thorne's fingers being blown off. She shuddered, and tried to will the memory away from her thoughts. She wiggled back into her warm covers again, hoping for sleep. She tried to think of Earth and the many wonders it held, but her mind would not stray from the horror she committed.
After a few minutes of a fruitless attempt, she gave up with a sigh. She tossed her heavy lunar covers off of her body, and slowly sat up. Cress was healing nicely. But she still winced as she got up from the bed. Cress began feeling her way through her room. She nearly bumped into her dresser, but soon felt the doorknob beneath her fingers. She twisted, and made her way out into the brisk hallway. It was hard to see, there were no lights except the ones that illuminated the hallway floors. Her bedroom door closed behind her as she tiptoed to the door she had become familiar with. She leaned forward and tried the lock, knowing it would be unlocked. The knob twisted, granting her access.
It was left unlocked for her per her request, and Cress was indefinitely grateful. She didn't think she could have lasted as long as she has without him. He was her rock, her night in shining armor, her hero. She quietly closed the door behind her, gasping when it made a loud noise. The figure in the bed in front of her stirred as she made her way towards him.
Thorne.
Her eyes adjusted to the soft lighting that filled the room. Cress could see him breathing in slow, deep repetitions. A smile tugged at her lips as she studied him further, trying to memorize how he looked in this moment. Thorne was sprawled across his bed, his hair as disheveled as ever, and shirtless. He was lying on his stomach. Cress thought back to when she had to force herself to keep her eyes away from him, but now she stared without concern. He was hers, and she was his. She couldn't bring herself to move her eyes away from the toned muscles of his back, but eventually did when the coldness of the palace room seeped into her skin. She walked over to the bed and carefully maneuvered her way into his arms as best she could without moving the bed too much. His eyes suddenly opened, alarmed, but then calmed when he saw that it was only Cress. He closed his eyes sleepily, with a dazed smile pressed into his lips.
"I'm sorry I woke you," Cress apologized, feeling guilty. Thorne didn't say anything as he flipped onto his back and then positioned Cress into the crook of his body so that his face was very close to hers. She snuggled closer to him to get more comfortable, and soon she was encased in his warmth. He had kept his eyes shut for most of these movements, but finally opened his eyes and let them rest on her. The closeness of the two of them made Cress's heart race as she looked back at him, and she couldn't keep the smile off of her face yet again.
"Bad dreams?" He asked, his voice sexily scratchy.
Cress nodded, a frown taking over her face. Thorne frowned back as Cress broke their gaze, and looked down towards their feet but was only met with a view of Thorne's boxers and her own PJ's. Thorne pressed a soft kiss on Cress's forehead and pulled her closer, if that was even possible. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him tight. The arm behind her neck moved and wrapped her up in a hug.
Cress felt tears welling up in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away.
"I'm sorry, baby." Throne cooed, as Cress sniffled and nodded. "You're okay now, and so am I."
"I know," she paused. "But I hate having to see it over and over again. It just won't stop." Cress said softly. She released her hold on him, and moved so that he was cradling her body. Big spoon, little spoon.
He said nothing for a few moments and said, "I know what you're going through, every night I can't shake the memory of hurting you guys."
"Thorne, that's not your fault. You couldn't control yourself."
"I know, but the feeling of hurting you and Cinder is stuck in my brain...it's hard to get rid of." His voice was filled with raw emotion. Remorseful emotion.
Cress held her breath for a moment and then said, "What are we going to do?" She whispered.
"It always helps when you're here, Crescent." He said quietly.
When he used her real name, it made her muscles weak. Especially when they were so close.
"Maybe I'll just have to start coming in here every night, Carswell." Cress smiled, turning her head to look up at him flirtatiously.
Throne smiled tiredly, lovingly, and mischievously all at the same time. Then, he bent to kiss her lips. When their lips connected, it was like magic. Their lips moved in sync, and a fire still burned inside them both. They were so close that Cress could feel Thorne's heart beat through her night gown. It was hard to tell whose body part was whose. Cress's lungs burned and her lips were swollen, but she couldn't bring herself to stop until the need for oxygen became unbearable. Even then, the loving continued as Thorne kissed Cress's neck 3 times.
He soon stopped, and laid back on his back. He pulled his arms tighter around her torso (as their closeness had been compromised with the kissing), and then nuzzled his face into her neck. Thorne had become quite the cuddlier once they had admitted their feelings for one another.
Silence filled the room, but it was a nice quiet. The kind of quiet that one could sit comfortably in. The only sounds were each others breathing, that neither of them particularly minded it.
"Carswell?" Cress asked softly.
"Hm?" Thorne said tiredly, but attentively all the same.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Crescent." That was the last they spoke, as they drifted off into a sleep filled with happiness, and happiness only.
A/N
Hello! I'm the author, and my name is Reese. I hope you like this chapter, and I hope my writing isn't too shabby and or too proper. I've been reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and I tend to absorb how an author writes and write in at least some similar way. Let me know your thoughts! It's currently 11:59- never mind it's 12:00 AM now. I'm super tired, so if there are any mistakes I do apologize. I'm super excited to write more soon!!
