After Kai managed to calm her down, they walked back to the office. He sat her down on one of the visitor chair and placed himself in one next to her. "I'll never leave you again. I promise."

She weakly smiled at him. He coaxed her back into his arms and held her close. This was all he ever wanted since he was stupid enough to leave her. To have her in his arms and tell her how much he loved her. Even after he thought she was gone for good, he kept the ring he bought to ask her to...

Marry him. That was the next thing he had to do. He had to take that ring out of it's hiding place and propose, before he lost her again. He'd just have to wait for the right moment.

While he was mindlessly scanning the room, his eyes stalled on a memento he gave her before he left. "Is that my hoodie?" He reached over and gripped it by one of the sleeves. Cinder still held fast to his chest, but mustered enough energy to smile.

"I thought I'd get cold again. So I kept it."

Through his shirt, he could feel she was a little frozen. Maybe because of the shock taking her over. "Can you wear it for a bit. I want to see how you look in it."

She gently took the sweatshirt from him and pulled it on over her head. Her hands brushed her hair out of her face. Then she shrugged to him and her grin brightened. "Ah," he sighed. "You're still beautiful no matter what you wear. Just like always."

"Stop it," she giggled. The most pleasant sound Kai ever had the fortune of hearing. It fed the small flame in his chest and warmed his long frozen heart.

Their eyes met and he saw just how much desire reflected off of hers. Sure that just as much, maybe more, was in his own. "Cinder?"

"Yeah?"

"Could we ... maybe-."

She cut him off. He guessed that she was too eager to let him finish. Her lips locked onto his for the first time in almost two decades. It had been so long he almost forgot how it felt to kiss.

Her fingers clawed their way into his hair. One of his arms wrapped around her neck. The other curled against her waist. It had been too long since he held her last, and it drove him insane. When his friends found out that Cinder was back in his life, they'd think he hunted her down. But what did it matter what they thought? Cinder was his again. That's all that would ever matter to him.

She kissed him with such hunger and longing his eyes began to water. He was the most brain-dead human on the planet to ever abandon her. He caused her a mountain of pain, and she still loved him.

He dropped his hands down to find her legs. Once he gripped her by her thighs, he lifted her onto his lap. Even the few inches that separated them was a valley of frost and solitude. He pulled her until she was pressed against his body. All he could think about was how much he wanted this. How badly he yearned for her over the years. How he didn't deserve her after the way he left.

Once they broke apart, Kai felt lonely within seconds. He tugged down the collar of the hoodie on her and slipped his hand to her neck. Cinder shuddered, in a happy, anticipating way. Kai tasted her neck. After all this time, she still used the same soap. He took the time to collect the other scents on her. Her shampoo was peaches, his favorite fruit. The hoodie had the same fragrance as when he gave it to her.

Her hands pulled his head from her. Water was leaking out of her eyes, her gorgeous chocolate eyes. Kai pressed his lips to each tear, making them disappear with the love she used to fill his heart. She still held his skull, just inches from hers. Why did he have to be so far away?
