The cover picture>I was sitting in the living room looking at a picture of me and Peeta at a fancy dinner
I just sat there holding it, being bored, remembering the good days where I had Gale here and my dad here.
Prim came beside me on the couch and cuddled up to me and I put my arm around her
"What are you looking at?" Prim asked me sweetly
"A picture of me and Peeta" I said showing her the picture
"Oooh you like him!" Prim says laughing
I laugh as well
"Wait you actually do?" Prim says
"Um, yeah, sort of" I say smiling at Prim
Prim smiles
"He is a nice boy" she says
My mom walks over and says "I heard something about a crush on Peeta" she says smiling and Prim looks at me and smiles
"Oh now hush" I say laughing
My mom and Prim both laugh
I hear a loud bang outside.
Prim gets frightened so my mother covers her ears.
I look at my mom confused and closed the blinds in the living room but I peaked out the blinds.
I see men in white suits with white helmets on and black visors on them, damn Capitol men.
I felt this coming, I knew it!
"Come on guys I think we should go hide" I say.
I hear loud screams and more bombs and loud shot noises outside.
I grab Prim's hand and run down to the basement and into the seller room.
"Okay guys, I got to go find Peeta and I will be back" I say as sit Prim down and my mom sits down in the seller
"Katniss, please come back down after" she says, the fear in her eyes makes my heart ache.
"Of course, love you prim" I say and kiss her on the head.
"Love you mom" I say and kiss her on the head too.
My mom smiles and me and starts crying and snuggles up to Prim.
I run upstairs and grab my bow and knack sack.
I run out the back door sneaking and I hide behind a wall.
I look around the wall and see that no one is there.
I run over to Peeta's bakery and all of the sudden run into somebody.
I start crawling away immediately because I thought it was guards.
I had blurred vision that's how bad I ran into that person.
But then I could kind of see them stopping me and my ears were ringing because of the bombs.
"KATNISS, it's okay it's me!" Peeta yells.
I shake my head and focus in, it is Peeta.
He helps me up.
"Peeta?" I say
"Hey it's me" he says
I hug him, he hugs my back tightly
"Thank god I found you" I say
"Yes, I am glad" he says and I let go of him
"We are going to Whitlem" I say demanding it
"Yeah, great idea" he says back
Me and Peeta run back to my house with the Mellark family and run down into the stellar to find my mom and sister prim still sitting quietly cuddling together.
"Katniss!" Prim says with joy and comes up to me and hugs me.
I put my arm around Prim
"Now guys, me and Peeta know a place-" I say and look at Peeta
"So Prim and Mom grab all your personal things quietly-"
I hear loud bombs that cut me off.
I run back up the stairs with Prim just to make sure Prim doesn't get hurt.
Prim runs and grabs a necklace dad gave her and a couple pictures.
I already have my stuff in my knack sack, but I grab that fancy dinner picture of me and Peeta.
My mother grabs her wedding photos and her watch Dad gave her and a blanket her great grandmother knit for her and puts it in a bag.
"Okay everyone let's go, remember move quietly and no matter what follow me and Peeta okay" I say
"3,2,1 Go!" I say and we all run out the back door.
Me and Peeta run up at the front.
Everything is on fire, my home, the place I was raised is now burnt to the ground.
My mother carries Prim and covers her eyes.
We continue to run and we finally approach Whitlem.
"HEY HEY HEY LARREEN LET US IN, ITS KATNISS" I yell
"Oh shit guys." Larreen says and opens the gate for us, we all run in.
Coin walks down.
"What the hell happened to you guys? And who are these people with you?" Coin says pondering
I breath deeply trying to catch my breath.
"Well here is my mother and my little sister Prim" I say.
My mother looks a Coin for a while and no one says anything.
"May I help you ma'am?" Coin asks because my mom is just watching her.
"Radele, is that you?" My mother asks
I look at Peeta confused
"Abaca?" Coin asks
My mom laughs and puts down Prim and runs up to Coin and hugs her and Coin hugs her back.
"You guys know each other?" I ask very confused and I look down at prim and she is just as confused as I am
"Well Katniss, this is my sister I haven't seen since I was 16" My mother says laughing
"So Coin is my aunt?" I ask
"Yes!" My mother says with so much joy, I haven't seen her so joyful since before dad passed away 2 years ago.
"Abaca come to my office, I want to catch up with you!" Coin says to my mom.
"Also for the rest of you there are many rooms around so just pick one and it can be yours." Coin continues to say.
My mom and Prim walk over with Coin to her office. Peeta's family walks over to the rooms and I walk over to Peeta.
"Well I guess you learn something new everyday" I say and I laugh
"Yeah no kidding" Peeta says and laughs
"I guess we go find a room" I say and shrug my shoulders
"Yeah, well I will see you after" Peeta says
"Yeah" I say and walk over to the rooms.
There were 12 rooms to choose from so I just chose the one beside Peeta.
I walked in and it was actually quite nice.
Even though they were 2 bunk beds.
I sat up on one of the top bunks and opened up my knack sack
I pulled out a picture of my dad and the picture of me and Peeta and put it up on the shell there was on the wall.
I see larreen poke her head in and she walks in and leans on the door frame and crosses her arms.
"What the hell happened to you guys?" Larreen asks.
"There is no more district 12, I will spare you the gory details." I say back looking through my bag.
She sighs and walks in.
"What's up with you and Peeta? Are you guys a thing? Or what" she asked laughing
"We aren't a thing, we are best friends." I say
"Well I think that there is more to it" she says and smiles
"Well there isn't" I say defending myself
"I've seen the way he has looked at you" she says smiling.
"Oh and by the way the reason I came in here is I wanted to tell you we have showers so I recommend you go use them because you look like shit" she says
"Thanks, okay." I say looking at my arms seeing that they are all covered in ashes
She walks out and I grab a towel which is on the table and walk out of our room.
I go to the showers and get in one of the showers.
I take off my clothes and turn the water on.
It is actually warm water, it feels very nice and I scrub myself so I don't have this soot all over me.
I get out of the shower and see there is a black shirt with blue jeans laying there with a note on top.
I wrap the towel around me and walk over to see what the note says, the note says
'I thought you might like some clothes, come visit me in my office'-Coin
I put on the clothes and walked out and while I was walking to the office people stared at me while they sat around camp fires and I just ignored them.
I walked up to Coin's office and saw that Peeta was there also clean.
"There's Katniss" Coin says as I walk in and the door shuts.
"What's going on?" I say and I clear my throat.
"Well I have a let's say, 'mission' for you two" Coin says.
"Like what type of mission?" I ask.
"A fighting mission." She says.
"So what are you proposing?" Peeta says
"Well if you do this mission for me I will let you stay here for as long as you want and you may have a better home for you two and your family" Coin says.
"Okay so, what is the mission?" I ask
Coin smerks
"Basically you need to go to steal this food for us, they also have medicine which is very important for one of our patients here, but there is going to be a lot of security and people also going to steal it." Coin says.
I look to Peeta and he looks over at me.
"So what do you guys say?" Coin says.
I shake my head yes "Yes, I will do it." I say
"Yeah." Peeta says.
"Perfect! You guys will meet me here at 12:30 am sharp tomorrow." Coin says.
Me and Peeta both nod.
"Great, you guys may leave." Coin says.
I push the door open and leave.
I walk back to my room as I see Prim sleeping on the bottom bunk and my mother is sleeping on the other bottom bunk.
I smiled and closed the door.
I changed into shorts and a gray tank top.
I lay on the bottom bunk with Prim and snuggle up to her and push the pretty blonde hair out of her face and kiss her on the forehead and I fall asleep.
I wake up and look over at the clock and it says it's 2:00am so I got up and grabbed my sweater and walked out the room closing the door carefully so I wouldn't wake them up.
I walk over to the balcony part quietly and see Peeta out there crying.
I felt like my heart just got stabbed because of the pain he was feeling it makes me upset to see him that way.
I sneak up behind him and hug him from behind him.
He smiles and puts his hands on my hands while I'm wrapping my arms around his torso.
"Peeta I'm sorry." I say
He doesn't respond and stop hugging him and turn him to face me.
"Peeta look at me" I say and wipe the tears off his face.
"Our whole memories almost like our life just burnt down in front of us." Peeta says and looks into my eyes.
"Peeta-" I say but he cuts me off
"Katniss, I feel terrible that I didn't help the other people, I mean before I ran into you there was a lady named River who needed help but I just walked past her to find you" Peeta says
"Please Peeta-" I try to say but he cuts me off again, I feel like my heart just got shot.
"I am such an asshole" Peeta says angry with himself
"Peeta don't say that about yourself. You are perfect, perfect to me, it doesn't matter what other people think just remember that I think you are perfect and I will always remember you as my best friend, I love you Peeta." I say
Peeta kisses me.
He wraps his arms around my waist and I kiss him back.
"That's all I need from you." He says
I smile against his lips and he smiles back.
I put my hands on his chest
"You should go get some sleep, we are going to have a very busy day tomorrow" I say to him.
"Yeah same with you Katniss" Peeta says and I hug him.
Peeta hugs me back and I walk away.
Before I go into my room I run into Larreen
"I saw you kiss Peeta" she said smiling at me
I sigh and shake my head laughing.
"I knew you loved each other" Larreen said.
"Goodnight Larreen, you get some sleep too" I say laughing and walk into my room and lock the door.
I lay with Prim and slowly fall asleep.
