“Twelve - order up!” the expeditor yelled. That was my table. I rushed back towards where he was and grabbed a large tray on the way. I loaded all the plates of food onto the tray along with the empty wine glasses and then turned to the closest waiter I knew.

“Michael! Can you grab this bottle of wine for me?!” I asked him.

“Anything for the lovely Ms. Kraemer.” Michael commented as he flashed a smile in my direction, grabbed the bottle and followed me out to table twelve.

“Here are your entrees.” I said as I set the plates down in front of the couple. I then set the empty wine glasses down for them and then Michael poured them their wine. The couple gave Michael a strange look and I thanked him before he wandered off - back to the kitchen I assume.

“Does everything look alright?” I asked with a smile on my face. The couple nodded before taking a sip of their wine.

“Is the wine alright? I can have Michael come back.” I offered.

“No, no it’s fine.” The woman spoke up. “I was wondering though, are you not allowed to serve alcohol?” She asked. I pulled the tray up against my body and held the bottom of it.

“No Ma’am, I’m seventeen.” I told her with a sweet smile, my country accent coming

through just a little bit. Her eyes widened and she folded her hands in her lap and looked up at me.

“Now, how does a seventeen year old land herself a waitressing job at a five star restaurant?” She asked, seeming genuinely curious. I shifted my weight to my right foot.

“Well my sister-in-law’s parents own this place, and they gave me a bussing job when I was 15 and I worked my way up the ladder.” I told her. She nodded and smiled at me.

“Well I think you’re an excellent waitress Miss....” She trailed off and looked at my name tag “Taylor.”

“Thank you Ma’am. I’ll be back to check on you in a bit, enjoy your meal.” I said with a smile as I walked over to another one of my tables

“Are you guys doin’ alright?” I asked the group of four. They all nodded and smiled at me.

“Can I get you anything else?”

“Can I get another glass of wine?” One of the women asked. I nodded to her.

“Sure thing, I’ll send Michael out right away. What are you drinking?”

“Cabernet Sauvignon.” She said softly. I made a mental note and told her I’d be right back with it. I walked to my third and final table of the night and went through the same process with them, although they asked for the bill. I told them I’d be right back with it and went back to the kitchen to find Michael.

“Is there still an open bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon?” I asked him as I grabbed my water bottle and walked over to get my last table’s bill.

“Yeah, I think so.” Michael said as he looked through the wine bottles. “Yep! Here it is.” He proclaimed as he picked it up.

“Come here with it then.” I told him. I put the bill in my pocket, set my water bottle down and walked out to the woman who ordered the glass of wine. Michael poured it for her, she thanked him and then he left.

“So is everything tasting alright?” I asked the group. They all nodded and smiled so I told them I would check on them later and went to go give my last table their bill.

“On this extra card here you can rate me as a server, and simultaneously enter to win a five hundred dollar gift certificate for here.” I explained to the couple as I set the bill on their table and went to check on the other table.
