“W-What?” Tanner stuttered and I laughed and gave a sarcastic curtsy.

“I’m the new mythology teacher” I said and he just gaped as I got my materials out. “Do you guys have a book?” I asked him and he shook his head yes still looking shocked. I sighed “Can I see it please?” I asked nicely.

He showed me a mythology book that was as old as dirt and I sighed “I’ll have to get the dean to order new ones by next class” I said to myself.

I saw Tanner finally lose the shocked look and he looked sad “Does this mean we aren’t friends anymore?” He asked looking like a child begging for candy.

I shrugged “I will not tolerate any un-professionalism in this classroom” Was my answer to see if he would catch what I said. I know I shouldn’t allow it to happen, but come on I need to know a few people in this town at least.

He brightened up “So that means outside of the classroom…” He trailed off and I rolled my eyes giving him a quick nod. He gave a wink and I returned it with a glare. “Right right, I’m the student you’re the teacher” He said and I nodded.

Students started to file in and I laughed to see Melissa walk into the door and saunter over to a desk in the back and he eyes almost bulge out of her head when she saw me standing in front of the teacher’s desk. I checked the time to see five minutes after class should have begun and I went and shut the door.

I gave a smile to the class and shook the nerves out. They didn’t have to know that I was the same age as them and I could totally do this. I breathed clapping my hand together “Okay, Welcome to Mythology 101. I’ll be your teacher Ms. Thundar.” I said leaning back against my desk.

“Now I’ll call roll” I said taking the printed piece of paper the dean had given me and rolled my eyes at the first name on the list “Tanner” I called and he raised he hand smugly smirking. I went through all the names trying to memorize them but failing miserably.

“Now let’s get to the serious stuff” I gave them all a piercing gaze “If you’re taking this class because you think it’s going to be easy you are sorely mistaken” I said looking at Melissa. “I won’t tolerate laziness and if you are failing the class for longer than two weeks I will drop you from it, so keep up with your grade. If you are here because you are truly interested in Mythology I welcome you and am sure a wonderful semester awaits you, but for those of you are here for an easy A please leave now because right there is the door” I said pointing at the door “Or go to the office right after this class and drop it please, it will save me time and effort” I said as they sat there in shock I pointed again to show them I was serious and I just about laughed in her face when Melissa and a few of her posse walked out trying to keep what little dignity they had left, along with two boys. I nodded “Anyone else?” I asked. I felt kind of bad for doing this to them on the first day, but I needed to show them I wasn’t a push over and plus weeding down the class didn’t hurt either.

When no one moved I nodded “The books you have now can be thrown away or sold back to the store. Whatever you want to do with it, we will be using different books depending on which mythology we start with first. Which leads me to my first question, what type do you want to study first. There are three options as of now” I said giving them all a smile letting them know my tyranny was over “Native American mythology, Greek mythology, or Chinese mythology” I said.

I saw Tanner raise his hand and I nodded toward him “I like the sound of Native American” He said and I smiled silently thanking him and relieved that this didn’t turn into a really awkward situation.

“Raise your hands if you want Native American” I said and saw a little over half the class raise their hands. I nodded “Native American it is” I said standing up straight.
