After I had trudged back in quickly and grabbed three air mattresses and some other essentials I thought boys needed I walked back out to see Leo grinning like he just got the best present ever.
“Ready to go?” I asked him.
Suddenly he looked at his brother “Can I ask her bubby?” He asked cutely.
Landon shrugged. I get the feeling he doesn’t talk a lot around people he isn’t comfortable with. I’m like that sometimes.
“You love me right?” He asked me in an extremely sweet tone.
I looked at him confused “Of course”
“Then can Goliath come stay too?” He asked jutting out his bottom lip.
“Who’s Goliath?” I asked and I saw Landon smirk.
“GOLIATH!” Leo yelled as loud as he could. The next second a huge black and white Great Dane with a worn old leather collar bounds around the corner and tackles Leo down licking his face while he giggles.
Don’t get me wrong I love dogs, but this one was huge!
“Does he bite?” I asked looking at Landon.
He shook his head no “just don’t bother Leo” he answered me looking lovingly at the dog and Leo.
I nodded. “Here puppy” I called to the dog name Goliath, rightly so for his size.
The dog raised its head and looked at me and took a run towards me and instantly jumped up on me. Somehow I managed to stay up and pet the dog’s head as he happily panted.
“So can we, Please?!” Leo pleaded.
How could you say no to that face?
I laughed “Why not? I have a huge yard he can play in” I laughed and Leo hugged me tightly.
“Thank you so much” He said and I laughed.
“You’re welcome buddy” I kind of sighed. What have I gotten myself into? “Now let’s get going, I have no idea how I’m going to fit that giant dog in my car” I sighed.
It must have been a sight, me walking and following behind me a smiling little boy, a huge dog, and a sullen filthy man.
I stood concentrating on my cheap old car. “Go ahead and get in” I told Landon. “I’ll get Leo and Goliath in” I said. He nodded and walked towards the opposite side. I opened the back door “In Goliath” I commanded and the dog followed my command jumping into the back seat “Sit” I told him and he sat like he understood everything, I grinned feeling that triumphant moment when an animal actually listens to you. “Okay, your turn Leo” I said and he jumped into the seat I put his seat belt over him “Does it fit okay?” I asked.
“Yeah” Leo nodded and I smiled getting in the front seat and starting up the vehicle. It was silent going back to the house except the occasional giggle from Leo as he played with Goliath.
As we pulled to a stop I was surprised to hear Landon laughing. It was a gruff amazing sound. I looked at him “What?” I asked.
“You bought the old Rosewood place” He laughed. “Everyone knows this place is shit” He laughed and I looked at him wide eyed.
“Language around the child!” I scolded. This just made him laugh even more, I just huffed and opened the door grabbing my bag and opening the backdoor while Leo scrambled out on his own following an eager Goliath. They ran through the opening in the rundown fence that surrounded the property “Careful Leo, the grass is high! There could be snakes!” I said overprotectively. I looked up to see Landon staring at me “What?” I asked for the second time. He just shook his head grinning and I shrugged. “Landon and I will be back out in a second” I said to Leo and he nodded having a good time with Goliath just romping in the grass.
