I woke up the next day and got ready before going down to fix breakfast. I pulled out a few things quickly and looked surprised when a sleepy shirtless Landon walked into the kitchen.

“Why are you up so early?” I asked him confused.

He shrugged almost brooding. I took it just accepting that it was his personality.

“Do you mind to go get Leo up?” I asked him and he nodded, getting up and going over to Leo’s room.

I finished fixing the pancakes and sat them on the table. As soon as that happened a happy little Leo bounced in “Good morning Leo” I smiled and made him a plate.

“Mornin’” He drawled still sleepy.

Landon came back in and I gave him a plate “Landon I have your first job for you” I said and he raised an eyebrow “While I’m gone today if you don’t mind can you take a look around the land and make sure there is nothing that could get caught in a mower? I’m having someone come over with two lawn mowers today and you guys can start on mowing this lawn down” I said. “but be careful it’s supposed to be hot, so wear some sunscreen in the medicine cabinet and if you get to hot come back inside” I directed.

He rolled his eyes playfully “Okay” was all I got as we ate in silence.

Saying our goodbyes Leo and I took off to school and I sat at my desk getting things ready for the day. Just like yesterday Keegan was dropping off Annabelle.

“Am I still bringing the mowers?” He asked.

I nodded and he slightly smiled giving me a wave. Then the day went on, and I got more into the grove of everything. This being my first teaching gig I was pretty nervous, the worst problem I had all day was catching one of the boys trying to eat glue. That was fun to try and stop.

I yawned after sending the kids that rode the bus out leaving just me, Annabelle, and Leo.

I heard a knock on the door and saw a man that looked like Keegan but older and more rugged and a woman who was the spitting image of an older Annabelle.

I automatically knew that these were Annabelle’s parents.

I walked to the door and smiled “You must be Annabelle’s parents, it’s nice to finally meet you” I smiled knowing that they were staring at my tattoo sleeves.

I cleared my throat after a moment and it snapped them out of it. The woman blushed slightly and the man looked at me sheepishly “Sorry, I’m Chaz and this is my wife Marilynn” He said.

I kept smiling “I’m Ms. Thundar. You can call me Athena though” I said.

“Come now Annabelle, I’ll take you to the car” Her mother said and Annabelle gave me a slight wave leaving with her mother.

Her father looked at me “Is she doing okay? This is her first year in public school” He said.

I nodded “She’s doing brilliant and she’s a sweetheart to boot” I laughed.

He grinned proudly “Thank you so much” He said turning around and leaving.

Leo and I left driving back home. As soon as I pulled into the driveway my phone rang and I picked it up seeing that it was an unknown number.

“Hello” I said cautiously.

“Hey, it’s Keegan. Just letting you know I’m almost at the old Rosewood place” he said.

“Okay, see you then” I said hoping out of the car.

I got out of the car to see Landon sitting on the rocking chair on the front porch with a book in his hand.
