I love talking to readers so make sure to comment!!!
******************************The dial tone rings on as I call my mother. Just as I think that annoying operator lady's voice will have herself be heard, my mother picks up.
"Hey Mom!"
"Hey Sash, what's up?" she says, her voice sounds off, but I continue talking.
"Well you haven't called to check in much, and I just wanted to talk. Plus, you're coming home tomorrow! I've missed yo-" I begin to ramble but my mother cuts me off.
"Actually honey, about that..." she trails off and the line goes quiet, bu not too quiet, because I hear faint murmurs and giggles. "I won't be coming home for another week, something came up with... work," She's awfully distracted it seems, her voice trails off after every sentence, as if she's occupied with something.
"Um mom-"
"Sorry honey, I have to go! Bye!" she rushes out.
She hangs up before I even get to say I love you. I wouldn't assume an abruptly ended phone call with my mother would upset me as much as this did, but it did. Maybe it's just me PMSing... I subconsciously turn my phone on to check the date. Yep, Satan is due in about two days. I love getting emotional over small things. Note the sarcasm.
The more I think about my mother's actions, the more suspicious I get. My mother has never, and I mean never not said "I love you" after a phone call, let alone hang up as if she would be doing anything but talking to her kids. Or doing anyone... No! She's not cheating. She would never, the night before she left her and Dad were snuggled up on the couch watching Friends reruns and eating ice cream. She loves him, it's obvious to anyone she would never do such a thing. The faint murmurs were probably just her business friends.
I had just remembered to call my mom after watching countless episodes of OTH.
Now, it's dark out and about midnight, which means I should probably go to sleep.
Climbing back under my previously occupied covers, I attempt to sleep. Sleeping has never been a big thing to me, considering I constantly get nightmares. Sleeping pills haven't stopped the many horrid nightmares of a specific time in my life. They creep into my head and before I know it I'm screaming myself awake, drenched in sweat. I'd never mention it to anyone, but the night Alec slept alongside me was the best sleep I've gotten since the warehouse. Even my mother's comfort or Anna sleeping beside me during sleepovers hasn't really helped. It's almost as if I need he who shall not be named to be with me.
♠Alec's POV♠
"I don't even play soccer regularly and I'm still better than you!" I shout, bonding down the imaginary side line and shooting the ball into the imaginary goal. "And he scores again! Alec Stone wins the game!" I do "the airplane" as a celebration act around the field. It's not illegal to act as childish as Caleb every once in a while, amiright?
"I was just in practice mode! No fair! I'm going to call James and tell him you're bullying me," Caleb says, frustrated with his loss.
"Ah c'mon, it's just a fun loving game of footy," I say, using a word my British uncle uses to describe soccer.
"I'm hungry, let's eat," he chimes, his dull mood transforming into an excited one quickly. He skips all the way to my house, which is far in the distance of the lot we were playing in.
"I can get Marie to make us something," I tell him, knowing he'll no doubt order his favorite meal from our private chef and her team.
He ignores my suggestion and asks a question.
