"Home at last!" Mom sighed, shutting the door to my car.

I grab the last of her luggage and we both head up my driveway to the front door.

Just as I go to grab the metal knob, it opens, and Jack runs out, my dad stands with a big smile on his face as he watched my mother walk up the steps and stumble a bit as Jack attacks her.

"Mommy!" He yells in joy as she proceeds to bend down and hug him.

I smile at the sight. It's good to have my mom back, though the house didn't seem to empty without her, oddly enough.

Jack finally unlatches from her as she stands back up, her perfectly styled brown hair shaking a bit as she wipes happy tears from her eyes.

After waiting his turn, Dad walks towards her as she walks towards him, and he engulfs her in a loving hug, kissing her cheek. I barely notice the fact she avoided eye contact throughout the encounter.

"I missed you, sweetheart," he adds, kissing the top of her head.

I've always admired his love for her, how he'd do anything for her.

"Missed all of you as well," is her response.

Before I can think about her odd body language, Jack pulls my mother away from inside and runs her inside, going on about how he drew her lots of pictures in art class at school.

I make my way back inside, followed by my father, who shuts the door.

I make my way up the stairs, tired yet excited. My mom is home, finals are over, I'm on break, life is good.

***

It's been awhile since I was able to stay in bed on a Thursday morning, stress free, well, in the school sense. Instead of racing out of bed at an ungodly hour to prepare for my demise, I get to take my time in my blanket cocoon atop my lovely bed.

The only downside to break in my county is the lateness. My break started today, December 22nd, three days before Christmas. Now you tell me, how is one supposed to get in the holiday spirit when the stress of exams is taking a piggy back ride on your back as you crawl to the finish line?

Not that I'm complaining. Because of this godsend that is break, I am currently sitting at my kitchen table eating chocolate chip pancakes at 11:00am. In my pajamas. Braless, which might I add is a very freeing and liberating feeling. Not to mention that I'm home alone, no Jack or parents to bombard me with their typically unnecessary questions. I shove a piece of pancake in my mouth, the chocolate  perfection oozing out.
