Julie Cayman was taking her daily evening walk around the block. The sky was a deep shade of blue, tinged with the pink of the setting sun and some of the night stars were creeping out behind the grey clouds that were filling the air. It was a very cold day and Julie couldn’t help but notice how her fingers were starting to tingle from the freezing temperature. Her legs were slowly going numb and she could feel the familiar symptoms of pins and needles in her feet. Regretting to put on another jacket, she continued her way down the quiet street.

Looking around the neighbourhood she could see no-one around at all. The roads were bare and the sidewalks empty of people. It puzzled her how quiet the night seemed, almost too quiet. Most nights she would be greeted by Old Man Wilkins’ and see a police car or two go by, but tonight everything was dull. She could see no lights on front porches or TV’s flashing action films, no birds returning to nests or even the occasional alley cat strutting along the walls of houses. It was exceptionally silent.

Then, as if the world had read her mind, a sleek and shiny black car turned the corner and drove down Piston Lane. Julie sighed in relief at the sight of such a mundane thing. For a moment she felt completely alone in the world but with the sight of the car she was pulled back to reality and knew that there were others around her.

As the headlights ran over her thin body, she froze from the sudden brightness of it. She stood there motionless watching as the car continued it way down, moving closer to her and stopping right in front of her stationary figure. It had taken her a full minute to realize that the car’s passenger window was rolled down and inside was a young man, barely in his early twenties, motioning for her to come closer. She looked around sceptically, wondering what in the world this stranger would want with her, but didn’t care much. She wasn’t one to deny a conversation with a complete stranger, especially if that stranger was hot as this one.

Julie walked up the side door and leaned over to keep eye level with him. He had light brown hair and set of dazzling blue eyes that made her light grey ones look dull in comparison and her soft blonde hair look too bright. She stared at him for a moment, taking in his refined muscles and strong arms. This guy was definitely hot and just looking at him made her think of dirty things (that I’m not allowed to mention).

“Hey there. You alright walking ‘round on your own like that?” the man said in a low and gruff tone. It had made Julie nervous hearing his voice. It seemed so masculine compared to the whinny tones of adolescent boys.

“I’m perfectly fine.” She shrugged her shoulders in a nonchalant way, trying to seem at ease when she could feel her heart racing a million beats per second.

“You sure? ‘Cause I could give you a lift if you want.” He gave her a crooked smile that melted her heart and made her knees wobbly. It was mesmerizing how his eyes kept focus on her face and the intensity of it was too much for a hormonal girl like her.

She mentally debated over whether or not she should accept his offer or to reject it and walk back home, but every time she glanced back the mysterious man eyes she would have to restart her internal conflict after being distracted. This boy was going to be the death of me.

It had taken her a full 7 minutes to finally decide on taking up his offer and let him drive her the 3 minute long journey home. During which the man also debated on whether this strange girl was mentally disabled. He had never been left hanging like that in his whole life. Usually he would ask for something and it was delivered to him in 2 seconds flat, this girl however had stood there dazed. He was also bewildered with the fact that she didn’t recognize him. How weird is this girl, she doesn’t even know who I am. This was one of the many thoughts running through his mind at the time but never spoken aloud and his face showed no indication of his thoughts either. He had left his face looking straight at her silver-grey eyes and her slightly pale complexion.
