luke was concentrated, really concentrated, for the very first time in his entire school life.

after michael went off, luke immediate dragged the thick book that probably weighed more than he did to the first check out station he landed his eyes on. after that, he rushed hone and immediately started reading the book.

normally, luke wouldn't even make it past the prologue. three hours later, he was on chapter 12 — which is only one-fourth of the book. there was a knock on his door but he didn't bother. he was determined to finish reading the book so he could talk to michael about it.

"dinner's ready baby brother," luke's older brother, ashton, pops his head in to the room, and almost chokes when he saw luke reading the gigantic book. "w-where did you get that?!"

"the library," luke answers with ease, his position staying the same.

"but you never read. who changed your mind?" ashton walks into the room and sits on the edge of luke's bed.

"ashton please go away," luke pleaded, his position still not changing.

"not until you tell me about the special someone who made my baby brother read books! this is worth to celebrate!" ashton said excitedly, bouncing on his bed.

"ashtonnn, could you wait until I finish this book?" luke bargained but ashton wasn't having it.

"i will continue to pester you until you decide to tell me about him,"

luke knew once ashton made up his mind, he wasn't going to change it.

"alright, i'll tell you about him but you can't tease me," luke gave in, looking up at ashton and putting away his book.

"i promise,"

"mooooom!" ashton rushed down the stairs and into the dining room where his father was sat on the chair reading that day's papers while his mother was setting up the cutlery for dinner. "our baby boy has a crush on someone! he's even reading a book!"

"ashton! you promised you wouldn't tease me!" luke whined, clumsily coming down the stairs two at a time.

"luke, a crush?" his father diverted his attention from the papers to the blonde. "what's she like?"

"derek, our lukey is homosexual remember?" their mom chuckles while bringing out the mash potato, the brothers simultaneously took their seats at the dining table as their father its away the papers.

"sorry about that luke. now, who's this special boy who managed to catch our little lukey's heart?"

"his name is michael, and he has pink hair, and he's the smartest guy in the high school like this guy literally can take the SATs now and get a score better than people my age!" ashton rambles for luke.

"keep quiet ashton, let your brother talk," their mother nudges her oldest son, then turning her head to look at her youngest son.

luke blushes upon the attention his family gave him as he tried to figure out how to tell him parents about the wonderful michael.

"i like him a lot," luke bites his lip after speaking, playing with his fingers.

"what about him?"

"when he's in the library, it's the most amazing scene to watch. when he's concentrating on taking notes, he looks so charismatic," luke sighed. "he's really kind and nice too. what isn't about him?"

"when are you going to bring him back home for dinner luke?" his mother asks, this time bringing out the main dishes, ashton scrambling to help her with the rest.

"mooooom, we're not even friends! well i mean he gave me his number today but i have never really talked to him before beca-"

"because you're too scared you'll screw up and he'll hate you forever. that's funny, aren't you the badboy? why would you be scared?" ashton chimes in.

he knew which buttons to push to make luke embarrassed in front of their parents.

"ashton can you please let your brother speak?" their father shakes his head as luke glared at his brother. "now luke, what were you saying?"

"nothing, nothing at all. let's have dinner," luke avoids the question and starts on his spaghetti, ashton sniggering.

later that night, luke sat on his bed getting ready to sleep. his phone which was on his dresser directly next to his bed caught his eye, and he started to contemplate on whether to call michael or not.

he really wanted to, but it's almost eleven at night, wouldn't michael be already asleep?

"it's a friday though," he argued with himself.

he knew that a lot of his friends stayed up on fridays, and he assumed that michael was no different.

he scrambled off the bed, hurried to his backpack and grabbed the piece of paper michael had handed him earlier.

he ran back to his bed and plopped himself on it, grabbing his phone and started to dial in michael's number.

luke was feeling confident so far, but it was short-lived.

"hello?" a groggy voice answered the phone on the other end of the line.

"hi? is- is this michael?" luke tried his best not to stutter.

"yeah, it is. who are you and how do you have my number?" michael asked, sounding really tired.

"i-im luke, you gave me your number earlier on,"

"oh, hi luke!" michael's voice suddenly perked up.

"am i disturbing your sleep?" luke asked, he didn't want to make a bad impression of himself to michael.

"yeah but it's alrig-"

"i'm so sorry i just thought you would still be up because it's a friday please don't hate me!" luke rambled nervously, close enough to breaking into tears.

"hey, it's okay," michael soothed. "i go back to sleep pretty easily so it's all good in the hood."

"i'm glad to hear that," luke mumbled.

"so why'd you call?" michael asked.

"because i missed listening to your voice," luke blurted out, causing an awkward silence between the two.

"oh shit," luke muttered. "i didn't mean to say that!"

michael chuckles on the other end of the line, and luke sigh a sigh of relief.

"it's okay luke, you have a nice voice and i like to listen when you speak,"

"th-thank you michael,"

"I'm going to sleep now, good night luke,"

"good night michael,"
