Review #1 : Shinigami-Sama to 4-nin no Kanojo

Title Critique: So... What the heck is this? A very good question, because that's what I thought too when I first saw this. The literal translation to this manga is, "Grim Reaper and Four Girlfriends." So yes, very weird title.

Episodes/Chapters: So ever since it 2013, it has only released 19 CHAPTERS. Whoa there... two years and only 19 chapters! It's not as bad as you think though, there are some chapters that are over 40 scans so it's worth it. But! It has completely finished, so the full story's up and ready!

Plot: So the main character of the story is a boy named Minaguchi Kaoru, who is nothing special. He's that kind of main character that exists to show how life sucks. I mean this guy has no friends and reads a bunch of manga (*cough* *cough* sounds like me *cough* *cough*) and barely knows anyone in his class. I kind of think that the only way this kid is normal is the fact he's pretty stubborn about finding his true love... but that's about it.

So that's all you typically have to know about him... until the shinigami part comes in. The shinigami is a girl named '(    )' (Literally a blank!) who came to kill/reap his soul. Here's the catch though, she literally almost kills him (through an illusion... don't know how that exactly works), but she DOESN'T kill him at the same time. Why? It's mainly because at the very last second, he's saying his regrets (while lieing [not lieing] on the floor bleeding [not bleeding]) about the things he couldn't do in his life and yadah yadah yadah... Cheesy, I know, but here's the catch: it worked.  Who would've thought cliques actually can save your life? It's just too bad shinigamis don't exist in this world... I mean, I could use an immortal life.

Anyways, so he lives (yay!), but there's a catch (like... all movies/animes/mangas/books). The shinigami has to stay with Kaoru for three months and observe his everyday movements. If he makes a mistake and fails to make his life "worthy of living," she'll take his life. So to convince the shinigami that his plans are genuine, he declared that he will confess to the girl he likes, the very next day (never a good thing to rely on...). 

Now remember, Kaoru a. has no friends b. barely knows his classmates and c. based on a and b, he's not very popular... so you can guess what this leads to: failure and death. He completely expects it too! So to keep his life, he goes around confessing to random girls in his school by sending out love letters to four different girls. To his surprise, they all agree to be his girlfriend.

Wow... so now, this shoujo-manga-loving guy has four girlfriends! Anime guys never seem to understand when they have it lucky, because I'm sure we all know it isn't as easy as this. If a shinigami came to me and told me I'm going to die... well let's say I wouldn't be writing this review.

Rating from 1 - 10: This is typically a 6 on my scale. It's a very weird manga (especially Kaoru), but you have to give the manga credit. The plot line is somewhat original, but the girls and the shinigami make up for the cliques the manga throws in.
