Last night I visited a theatre to watch my sister's music performance and I got more ideas, so here's another quick chapter before I go back to studying.
At precisely 4:00 the very next day, you and Hiro ran onto the empty stage at the San Fransokyo Performing Centre for the Arts from backstage, after you changed into a pair of black leggings and a grey fitted t-shirt, your pointe shoes back on your feet, and Hiro put on a pair of dance shoes Edward lent him. To your surprise, the lights were still on in the house, the spotlights still at work thanks to the tech crew. And beside you, Hiro let out a gasp and started to blanche.
"Oh my god. This is what you have to perform on?" Hiro asked softly, his eyes wide with fear.
You nodded and laughed as you pulled him centre stage. "Yeah. We do perform here every single year, Hiro. And I know it's kinda scary, but once you start performing you just...feel good about performing, and things just come naturally to you as if you have been dancing this your whole life, which you have--you know what I mean, right?"
Hiro nodded, his eyes now fixated on the spotlight above. "Yeah. I do. Whoa. This light is bright."
"Seriously? Is that your only response?" you smirked.
"Huh? Oh. Uh...I...uh..." Hiro laughed sheepishly again as he glanced down bashfully, rubbing his hand near the nape of his neck and blushing slightly, hoping that the light wouldn't pick up his slowly reddening cheeks. "No. Just...it's overwhelming. But kind of cool at the same time too. A bit like how I felt when I participated in my first bot fight."
You nodded solemnly as you began to stretch onstage, and Hiro decided to copy you. After a bit, you approached Hiro and asked, "So, what exactly have you been working on?"
"Uh...mostly the male lead solos," Hiro said sheepishly. "I mean, I can't completely bluff this after that incident last night, so I worked well into the night on this. I can't screw it up for you, (Y/N). I know how much this means to you."
Hearing those words made you feel a warm fluttering feeling inside, and you only smiled as you took his hand again, intertwining your fingers with yours tightly. The sensation within you rendered you unable to speak, but you hoped Hiro understood the message--that you were forever grateful for him to step up and take on such a big role, even if he had little to no previous dance experience.
And then, the unexpected happened. Hiro lifted your intertwined hands up, allowing you to twirl once as you rose on your pointe shoes, onto your toes. Then he gently held onto your waist as he helped you twirl, and then it was as if you have both been dancing together since you were children. The both of you began to perform the entire routine. Hiro doing spectacular leaps while you pirouetted a few times and performed the entire routine, as if you were still dancing with Edward. You trusted Hiro so much that you just lost yourself to the beauty of the dance, to the calm feeling that overtook you every time you danced. The timings have never been more perfect. It was as if the both of you have been born to dance together, made to be able to move and feel the same things at the same time. Time and time again you both found yourselves together, hands supporting your waist or gently grasping onto your own fingers, the both of you lost in each other's eyes and the internal rhythm that you didn't even notice Mr. E or Edward come in at all.
In fact, it wasn't until you and Hiro did your final pose--him holding onto your waist with one arm while the other was extended behind him, his fingers gently held in a typical dancer's position, and your arm was draped over his shoulder and your other arm was raised high above your head in an arc, looking into his eyes--then you realized you had an audience at all. You glanced to see Mr. E and Edward and some of the other cast clapping to your performance, with them sitting in the middle rows on the ground level.
