Chapter 4 Meeting Hazel

"There's my girl!" Jess called to Hazel. She saw the confused look Maya had and explained. "Hazel's my horse. I've known her my whole life. Her foal is going to be a gift for my niece." Maya nodded. "Now, would you like to take Hazel out to the paddock while I muck out her stable?" Jess asked. "Of course!" Maya said. She took the halter that was put on a shiny hook. "Come on girl." She encouraged Hazel. Hazel, wanting to get out of her stall rushed out. "That's it girl!" Maya cheered. Maya took the halter off Hazel and let her free in the small square shaped paddock. Hazel I immediately ran around in circles. Maya giggled. "You needed the exercise." She called to the mare. Hazel neighed in response and ran in Maya's direction. She carefully nuzzled Maya. At that moment Maya had a flashback of her and Rose.

-Flashback-
"Good girl Rose!" 5 year old Maya called to Rose. She had just jumped an almost impossible hurdle for her size without a rider urging her on. Rose eagerly trotted up to Maya and carefully nuzzled her.
-Flashback over-
A single tear drizzled down Maya's cheek and onto the dew glazed grass. "Maya!" Jess called. "The stalls ready!" Maya got the halter and lead and put it on Hazel. Slowly, dazed from the flashback she led Hazel to her stall. "Go on girl" Maya urged Hazel in. "Alex!" Jess cried suddenly. Maya looked to where she was calling and guessed that that was her cousin. She had blonde hair and a perffesional set of riding clothes that must've cost more than a horses weekly feed! "Who's she." Alex demanded in a strict and spoiled brattish tone.
