Ally's P.O.V
I let out a shaky breath as I stepped out of Chis' car. He and Alison had been telling me to stay home all weekend, but I refused to give Mason that much satisfaction. People seemed to stare at me as I slung my bag over my shoulder and looked over to Chris.
He tried to give me his most reassuring look, before gesturing to the school entrance. I took a deep breath and held it for a few seconds, trying to calm my heart down. Chris placed his hand lightly on my shoulder and gave me a nod, and we took our first steps towards the open double doors.
"If you feel like you can't handle today at any time, just find a way to contact me, I'll be there as soon as possible to take you home." Chis whispered soothingly, intertwining our fingers.
"Thank you," I sighed, letting out a long breath and paused at the top of the school steps. I pushed the door on my left open and gestured for Chris to go in before me; he chuckled slightly and put his hand above mine and gestured for me to go ahead of him.
I bit my lip to stop myself from giggling and entered the building. Chris let go of the door and entered behind me, letting the door slam shut behind him. I felt myself cringe as the sound of the door echoed down the hallway. People looked towards the door, before looking at me and Chris. I could feel myself starting to shrink back from their stares and look down at the ground quickly.
"Just ignore them; I'm sure they're just staring because we slammed the door." Chis said soothingly.
That was an obvious lie, but today really wasn't the day for arguing. I only had so many people in my corner and I really didn't feel like losing one over a stupid bunch of stares. They probably thought that everything that happened at the party was a lie. I wouldn't doubt that they believed that I made the whole story up and started spreading it around school.
I shook my head and hurried to my locker, Chris following quietly. From the corner of my eye, I could see him and looking around at the students who were staring at me and trying not to say anything. I'd always known Chris as a shy sweetheart, but it seemed like after everything that happened with Mason hardened him towards others; I didn't like it one bit. Chris' kind nature was the one thing that I'd never wanted to change about him, but after this... tragedy? He just seemed to shut down that part of him, to anyone except those close to me.
I halted at my locker and quickly turned the dial to my locker combination, 4-0-2-5. The lock clicked and I pulled it out of the hole and opened my locker, taking out my first periods textbook and shoving my bag inside. People seemed to start talking about other things, because I could hear murmuring, but no one seemed to be talking about me, thank goodness.
"I should go to class, thanks for walking me in." I smiled up at Chris.
"I can walk you..." He said quickly, standing up almost like a soldier at attention.
I smiled wider and felt myself begin to go back into my old routine. Chris just had that presence that could calm me down and make me forget all the bad; it was really welcoming in this situation.
"That's alright," I murmured, turning towards my locker and shutting it, shoving the lock back into the hole and clamping it shut.
"I insist," he persisted.
I shook my head and gave him a nod, before gesturing down the schools old hallway. It was barely lit and some lights were flickering, only revealing the shadows of the students who hung out down there. Mainly the ones who smoked and did... other things hung out there. One, because it was dark enough that no one would be able to say exactly what they were doing and two, the smoke alarms and camera's didn't work well there.
"Ally, let's get going." Chris said, shaking my arm slightly.
"Alright." I nodded in agreement, before making a sign for him to start walking.
"You do know that it's ladies first?" he chuckled, before starting to walk to my first period.
"What can I say? I'm untraditional." I shrugged, following closely behind him.
I could hear him laugh and say something quietly, but he didn't reply to me, as we continued on our journey to class.
