Chapter 5: His Princess

The sound of heavy footsteps in the corridor in front of my room woke me up.
"What the...?" I slowly opened my eyes and stood up. The room was almost completely dark, so I lit a candle that was on the table and walked towards the window.
"This is weird... I'd swear it's morning..." I mumbled and looked outside to try to figure out the time.
A huge grey shark passed in front of my window.
I screamed at the top of my lungs and fell back. "What on earth is going on?!"
Bepo, who probably heard my screams, barged in the room.
"Azami-chan, are you alright? I'm sorry for entering so suddenly..." Then he noticed I was in my underwear (what's wrong with sleeping like that?) which made him scream as well and turn around hiding his eyes in his paws and apologising repeatedly.
"I-it's ok, Bepo! Don't apologize, I'm fine!" I quickly put on some new clothes I found on a chair -a yellow tank-top with the Heart Pirates' symbol on it, black shorts and my old pair of boots- and told him to turn around.
"Awww, Azami-chan, you look great in that! Our colors fit you perfectly!"
"Oh, thank you Bepo..." Even though I'm not gonna wear them for long...
"Anyway, what is happening? Why are we under the sea?" I asked.
"Well, the submarine took off some hours earlier... Law-sama's orders!"
Oh, right. I had forgotten this ship was a sub.
"I see... And where are we going?"
"We are in shortage of supplies, so we're heading for the closest island, Lotus Island."
"Lotus Island? First time I hear about it. Then again, I've only been in the Grand Line for a little time..."
"It's our first time going there too!" Bepo said excited. "I wonder if we'll meet any female polar bears there..." he added blushing.
I smiled at him. Bepo was the cutest creature in the whole world.
Unlike a certain someone...
"So there you were, Bepo, Azami-chan!" Penguin barged in my room, followed by Sachi. These two were together all the time, you never saw one without the other.
"Captain said to gather in front of the submarine exit. I bet he's gonna divide the teams that will go to the island and the ones that will stay here. Hope we all get to visit the town!" Penguin continued and left running towards the meeting place, of course together with Sachi.
I wore my belt with my knives and placed two of them in my boots. Law hadn't given the Sea Prism Stone knives back to me, so I had to resort to normal ones. Well, if it came to it, I'd just steal them from him.
"Come on, Bepo! Let's go find those polar bear ladies!" I said blinking.
Bepo smiled widely. "Yes, Azami-chan!"

We were running towards the meeting point, when I halted.
"Um... Bepo, go on ahead... I need to... Um... Use the bathroom..."
Bepo didn't talk for a second and I wondered whether he had seen through my blatant lie.
"Sure, go ahead!" he said then. "I'll tell captain you're gonna be late!" he added and ran off.
I watched him leaving, feeling a weird burden on my chest.
Why do I even feel bad? I've been doing nothing but fool them all this time...
I walked on the opposite direction from the one we were taking and turned around a corner, hiding in a dark corridor. Then I took the Denden Mushi out of my jacket's secret pocket. My hands were shaking inexplicably when I called Kid.
Two seconds of silence passed.

"Yo, Cupcake. How's it been?" Kid's voice came from the snail. It sounded like he was having a good time.

"Don't call me that." I said, feeling nostalgic. "Just called to say we've stopped sailing. We're embarking in Lotus Island."

"Roger" he said ironically. "Keep me up to date. And... Have fun!"

Gacha.

I glared at the dead denden Mushi.

"Oh, you bet I'll have fun. Such a nice resort you sent me to! It wouldn't make sense if I didn't have fun!" I mumbled as I was hiding the snail back in my jacket. Then I started walking, still infuriated.
