Chapter 6: Dark, starry sky

Law's POV

Damn it, why did I say that? I just made it obvious that I was into her...

That was all I could think as I was walking fast in front of Azami, with her following me.

"Hey, why are you running? Wait up! It's not polite to leave a lady behind!" she yelled at me trying to catch up. From her voice I judged she was completely dumbfounded by what I had just said.

I halted. I couldn't resist teasing her after all.

I turned around with a grin on my face.

"A lady? I don't see any ladies around here... Just a cocky little brat."

"Say that one more time and I swear..."

"Damn it, calm down a little, will ya? I'm just teasing you, idiot" I said. Why did she always get offended so easily? Even though she was cute when she was angry...

My hand moved on its own and I patted her head.

As I expected, she immediately turned red.

"Wh-what are you doing?!" she said pulling herself away and turning her back at me. "Take me more seriously, you... You creep!"

I shrugged my shoulders. The last comment was definitely not needed.

"Just felt like it. Let's go."

I kept walking to the meeting place. Azami hesitated for a little, then she quickly caught up. We were walking side by side now, which gave me the opportunity to look at her.

She was still a bit pissed, but also looked like she was enjoying this. Her short temper and her immaturity really got on my nerves and often made me wonder why I felt this way about her.

But God, was she beautiful. Hair that reached up to her waist, as red as the break of dawn. And her eyes... More blue than any sea I had seen. Everytime she looked at me, I couldn't help but drown in the blue abyss of her gaze.

"What are ya looking at?" Azami said, avoiding my eyes.

"Not your business" I answered. I'd never admit staring at her, not in a million years.

We turned around the final corner.

"Captain, finally! Where have you been all this time?" Penguin said. He, Sachi and Bepo were practicing that stupid intro of theirs, which was basically about them doing stupid poses and shouting stupid phrases.

"None of your business. And what the hell are you three doing?"

"Practicing our introduction, of course!" Sachi said enthusiastically. "What do you think, captain?"

Azami's doubtful expression reflected my opinion about their intro accurately.

"Whatever, just gather round. I'm gonna divide up the teams."

Azami's POV

I joined the rest of the crew as we stood in front of our captain, waiting to hear about our assigned teams.
