No. No, no, no, no. That couldn't be right. You had to have heard wrong. No, you didn't hear wrong. You just hadn't pressed the trigger because you were just so shocked and appalled by what you had just seen. Yes, that was it! Now, it was time to actually press the trigger. You had to stop this maniac, you had to keep the country safe-
"Trigger is locked."
Your eyes widened as you quickly began to comprehend what you had just heard. How? How could this... this monster before you fool the Dominator? You didn't have much time to reflect upon your failure as you saw the side of the medical truck attempt to collide with the side of your's. Your hands dug into the metal of the window, your balance being completely thrown off. Tires skidded across the road, the smell of burnt rubber filling your nostrils. Your heart beat from your chest as you felt your body being pulled back into the truck by the help of Kogami. "Are you alright?" His voice sounded frantic. That was unusual. Everything about this moment was unusual. But you had to snap out of it; this was no time to have an emotional crisis. "I'm fine, just don't lose him!" If you couldn't stop the criminal the easy way, it was time to do it the hard way.
Kougami dodged obstacles like an expert, yet the quick screams of panicked citizens created an awful feeling in your stomach. This high speed chase was going to get even more dangerous the longer it went on. Crawling into the back of the van, you looked around for anything that could be used to hinder the car... or better yet the actual driver. And looking out the window, you saw that you had to decide on a plan quickly. You were quickly coming up to a bridge over a large body of water. Your body was thrown slightly as the medical truck rammed into the side of your own. Your (eye color) eyes frantically darted back and forth looking for something- anything- before landing on a tool box. Perhaps there was something in there. Opening it, your eyes rested upon the wrench. Which was conveniently by an emergency tool.
It was worth a shot.
Coming back towards the front, Kougami spoke to you through clenched teeth. "I assume you've got a plan..." You nodded and lifted up the wrench. Kougami couldn't hide the look of confusion on his face, yet he said nothing to combat your plan. Had he already learned to trust your instincts? "Drive as close as you can to him...", you demanded. Kougami followed your command immediately, but the criminal seemed to catch on quite quickly. Once again, the cars were going back and forth, your sense of balance being thrown this way and that. Firmly holding onto the emergency tool and the wrench, you waited for the perfect moment. The window was finally within arms length, and you stabbed at it with your emergency tool, breaking the window into a million pieces. Thank God, you were in a police vehicle. The crash of the window caused the criminal to begin swerving once again, but thankfully Kougami was doing very well at closing the distance, however, you could no longer reach towards the car. You knew there was no way for you to jump through the now open window like you had originally been planning. Glancing at the metal object in your hand, you had anther bright idea. Aiming your wrench, you planned to hit the man square in the jaw.
And you did. Sort of. It took you a minute to realize that you had actually hit your target. That had never happened. Not even when your parents forced you to play baseball as a kid. But now was not a time to be reliving old, embarrassing memories. Laughing, you turned to look back into the car at Kougami, who did not seem as excited as you, and it didn't take long to realize why. You and the criminal you were pursuing were still dangerously weaving through traffic, though thankfully you seemed to have made your way into a construction site. The assailant's car crashed into a metal beam and Kougami skidded your vehicle to a stop. You both caught your breath for a few moments, taking in the sudden silence that enveloped you two. Slowly turning your heads towards each other, you gave Kougami a light smile. "Well. That went well." Kougami looked at you with his stern, dark eyes; you started to feel a bit self consciousness. And then, he began to laugh along with you. It was soft at first, and then went into a crescendo, louder than you had ever heard his voice before. It was nice. You began to feel closer to him than you ever had before. That thought made your heart skip a beat... and you weren't really sure why.
Kougami's laugh came to a halt, and he placed a strong hand on your shoulder. "You. Are. Crazy." A phrase that typically would make you angry made you feel good. Finally. A compliment from this block of ice. Nodding your head, you reached for your Dominator. Perhaps it'll work this time... maybe it wasn't broken somehow. "Let's get our man.", you said as you opened the door.
Both of your slow steps echoed off of the many steel beams that surrounded you. The sun was even starting to set in the distance, placing an eerie orange glow upon the earth. Kougami stopped suddenly, whispering under his breath. "Wait." It was scary, urgent. Looking around, you tried to get a glimpse of what he saw; you strained your ears trying to hear what he heard. It felt like many eyes were watching you. All of a sudden, a dark figure clouded your vision. You felt a sharp pain to your cheek and your head jerked to the side. Before you could even gather your footing, you felt a sharp pain in your neck and you tumbled towards the ground. You could barely hear Kougami's voice over the ringing in your ears. As your vision cleared up, you could see Kougami in an intense fist fight with a cloaked figure. You could see a few strands of silver hair falling from their hood. Trying to lift up your body, you found that the strength from being instantly zapped from your body. Whenever you lifted yourself up, you instantly fell. You felt powerless as you watched Kougami fight this battle alone. With a punch of the stomach, Kougami bent over from the force and you could see the shine of a needle enter his neck. Trying to get up again, you found you couldn't.
The figure dropped Kougami, his body falling limp onto the ground. Your heart raced as the cloaked figure slowly stepped towards you. They walked towards the vehicle, opening the door, and pulling the injured man from the steaming vehicle.
Then, everything went black.
