Chapter 3

Violets P.O.V
Potter waved his hand at me. I rolled my eyes and stepped out of the compartment. "What's your little plan?" I asked irritably. Potter motioned for us to walk along the train. I sighed and nodded as we began to stroll around with people from my year staring at us as if I had grown an extra head. "I think that you should write them a song and sing it at the welcome back feast," Potter said. I stopped abruptly and asked, "How did you know I sing and write songs?" Potter's tanned skinned cheek beat red as he slightly smiled and said, "Moony and Padfoot...They umm...Wanted me to know you better." I was about to ask why when I realized, if anything, I really did not want to know. I sighed as we continued walking and I said, "Do you realize how long it would take for that?" "Yeah. Maybe a few hours," Potter answered. "Well, I can't do that. It's too loud for me to think and I don't think Professor Dumbledore would allow it," I said. "He would because you're a prefect and we can find a empty compartment where you can write your song and I'll just wait for you to finish," Potter said. I sighed and Potter caught my shoulders and pulled me back. "Trust me," Potter said as he stared at me, pleading through his eyes. "Fine," I said simply. "Really?" Potter asked. I sighed and said, "As long as it gets my best friends back, sure. I'll trust you with this but after this is over I'm back to hating you again." I strolled past Potter and he followed behind me as I found a new compartment to stay in and he grabbed my trunk, owl's cage and his own trunk and owl's cage. "Your owl's beautiful," James said as he came in with our things. "Thanks," I said. I took my notebook from my trunk and a quill and ink bottle and everyone knows when ever I do that, serious thinking is about to occur.
I stared at the piles and piles of crumpled up parchment on the floor as my quill wobbled in between my fingers and ink bottle shook with the motion of the train. I sighed and dropped my quill. "I can't do this," I sighed. "You can you just need to pick up your quill and let your mind wander," Potter said lazily as he had his feet laid across the seat in front of me. I leaned over my trunk with my notebook sitting on top holding my quill and ink bottle. Potter raised his eyebrows at me and let his eyes flicker from my notebook and back to me until I reached for my quill once more and continued to try and write a song.
"I've got it!" I said happily as I stared down at the full two pages written of just song. "Really?" Potter asked happily. He reached for my notebook. I grabbed it away and said, "Just because you convinced me to do this doesn't mean you get to see it first." Potter smirked and said, "We're nearly there. You should change into your robes." "Thanks," I said simply as I grabbed my trunk and threw my quill, notebook, and ink bottle inside as I grabbed my robes and prefect badge out. I walked towards the wash rooms and smiled at the lit Hogwarts castle waiting for all of the new students and old, like me, to enter it's domain.

As Violet left I couldn't help but stare at her opened trunk. I could see through the tiny slit that was still opened her notebook sitting there with the rest of her things. I heard it calling to me. Telling me that there was no harm in opening the pages and seeing the song. Telling me that secrets were bound inside of it, waiting to be heard. I sighed and looked out the compartment. She would be gone for long....There is no harm in just taking a peek, right?, I thought. I reached for the notebook and flipped the first page to find a very LONG story. I skipped a few pages and found THE song. It was dated for September 1. I smiled to myself and started to read through the first few verses. "This is amazing," I said to myself. I heard echoing foot steps coming towards the compartment. I quickly threw the notebook back into the trunk and smiled as Violet walked back in in her robes, prefect badge pinned to her chest and....A silver heart locket wrapped around her neck...

I walked back into the compartment to a cockily smiling James Potter. I slightly smiled back and took my seat back as I snapped my trunk shut. "You....You have a boyfriend?" Potter asked. I looked up with my eyebrows scrunched. "No, why would you think that?" I asked. Potter looked thankfully relieved. "Well, the heart necklace," Potter said pointing to my neck. My hand soared to the locket and I fiddled with the latch holding the two halves together. It opened and showed the picture of my mother and I. I moved next to Potter and showed him the picture. "Is that your Mum?" He asked. I nodded and said, "She's the best." "I'm sure, now I know where you get your beauty from too" Potter said and smirked a little. I smiled, rolled my eyes and then moved back to my seat. I closed the locket and said, "Well, I best be getting back to Lily, Molly, and Alice." "Yeah, I'll get back to Moony, Wormtail, and Padfoot," Potter said. "See you later, Potter," I said as I grabbed my trunk and owl's cage and dragged them back to my old compartment.

"So, how was your date with Potter?" Alice mocked. "It was not a date. He was helping me get Remus and Sirius to be my friends again," I explained quickly. "Oh, really?" Molly asked. "Prove it," Lily said with a smirk. I sighed and pulled out my notebook. I found my notebook pages to be a bit torn. "What happened to me notebook?" I wondered aloud. Everything suddenly clicked. Why Potter told me to leave the compartment and change and why Potter smiled at me when I came back. Innocent act. "Potter," I said angrily through gritted teeth. "Why can you automatically blame him?" Alice asked. I explained the entire thing. "Oooohhh...It was him this time," Alice said. I glared at her for a split second and sighed. "Whatever. Anyway, here's the song," I said and handed them my notebook but nobody reached to get it. "Sing it," Lily said. "No," I said back, sternly. "Plleeeaasseee," The girls chorused. I rolled my eyes and said, "No. You are all going to have to wait until the feast."

As The Sorting Hat was brought off of the stage with Professor McGonagall, Professor Dumbledore stepped up and so did Potter. My heart did a leap in my chest as I bit my lip. I had gone over the entire song in my head dozens of times during the sorting and now knew it by heart. I sighed as Professor Dumbledore said, "Welcome! To another year at Hogwarts!" Everyone applauded, as usual, and Professor Dumbledore raised a hand for silence and immediate silence came. "Mr. Potter has an announcement about a fellow student, Mr. Potter," Professor Dumbledore said. Potter smirked at me and said, "Violet  Evans has a some entertainment for us as we eat the first feast of the year!" My cheeks flushed red as I bit my lip again. This better work, I thought. I stood up and walked up to the stage. Echoing foot steps followed me all the way up the stage. As I stood before them, all I saw were a million, beady and curious eyes. "Hello, everyone," I said nervously, "Today, on the train, I lost my best friends and I wanted them to know that I'm so sorry and how much I love them. So, I wrote this song. There isn't any music to it just yet so please bare with me." "Yes there is!" Alice shouted as she stood up from the Gryffindor table holding a acoustic guitar. I smiled widely as she ran up onto the stage and whispered to me, "I sneaked a peek while you were reading on the train." I giggled and she started to strum the strands of the guitar. As I started the song, 'Put Your Records On' (by Corrine Bailey Rae and it is a bit remixed to fit the story). I stared at Remus and Sirius who stared back at me coldly as I started the first verse,

Two little birds, sat on my window
And they told me I don't need to worry
September came like cinnamon, so sweet
Little girl, like me, all alone on the concrete

Maybe sometimes, we got it wrong, but it's alright
And everything seemed to change, and I want it all to stay the same
Oh, don't you hesitate

I motioned for Molly to get Remus and Lily to get Sirius on stage as I sang:

Boys, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
I went ahead and let you down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I could've never dreamed
That I would go and let you down

Sirius and Remus were now standing on the stage with me with the assistance of Lily and Molly holding

them there. I smiled and walked over to them as I sang:
I'm gunna find myself some where, with your help

Blue as the sky, somber and lonely
Laughing all the time together
Don't you let my other friends fool you

I giggled and turned towards Sirius and sang:
Gotta love that awful hairdo

Maybe sometimes I feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you change, the less everything seems to stay the same
Don't you think it's strange?

Boys, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
I went ahead and let you down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I could've never dreamed
That I would go and let you down

I'm gunna find myself some where, with your help

Just more than I could take, pity for pity's sake
Some seconds I let tears drop, thought I was stronger
When am I gunna realize, I never had to try to keep it any longer?
Please accept me to

Boys, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
I went ahead and let you down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I could've never dreamed
That I would go and let you down

Boys, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
I went ahead and let you down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I could've never dreamed
That I would go and let you down

I'm gunna find myself somewhere, with your help

I finished the song and a huge applause broke out. Sirius and Remus smiled widely at me and hugged me tightly. "You are such a dork, you know that?" Sirius asked. I laughed and nodded into his shoulder. "Is that a yes that you'll accept my apology?" I asked. They laughed and pulled away from me. "Of course!" They said together. I smiled and looked out to the Gryffindor table. I smiled at Potter as he smiled at me. As we walked off of the stage, I sat in front of Potter and said, "Thanks." "Anything for my girl," Potter said. I rolled my eyes and said, "It's ridiculous how quickly you can change from nice and sweet to annoying and cocky." I stood up and walked down to sit with Fabian, Gideon, Molly, Alice and Lily but still sent a small smile down the table for Potter.
