Chapter 1
It was a warm breezy afternoon as the waves hit the shorelines. The white foam melted away as the waves raced back out to sea. The majestic winds that carried them blew over the grass bending in a wishful bow towards the tents that were set erect on the large hotel deck. The sun's rays reflected across the waves causing the ocean to resemble the blueish green color of glass.
Many of the guest arrived in town days earlier for the charity event of the year. However, now they enjoyed a quiet luncheon on the grand patio of the Grand Hotel De'Lapri which overlooked the ocean.
Others who had arrived early enjoyed a nice stroll along the water's edge allowing the cold watery sand to squish between their toes. Couples dressed in beach attire lay on colorful towels all along the hot white sand.
Volleyball was a hit, for several groups were in intense matches along the beach. Mothers and daughters played gracefully in the water as the dads built sand castles with their sons.
The Holloway's charity tradition was upheld to the very core. Everyone who was anyone in society wouldn't have missed it for the world. Many planned a year in advance to be at this elaborate event. This was the charity event that enabled blind children and adults from around the world to regain their sight. The Holloway logo was known in countries around the world. They were the leaders of this movement started by Mr. Holloway Sr. ten years prior to his death and everyone wanted to be a part of it. Not to speak of the billions that were generated in revenue for hosting the event in the center of Hollywood each year. The event was broadcast throughout the states as if it was a presidential election.
As the evening drew near, you could hear the sound of the classical music playing from the hotel as if it was being carried on the wind. The evening was magical. You could sense excitement in the air. Cascades of limos, Bentley's, Mercedes Benz, and BMW sports cars were lined up as far as the eyes could see.
Flashing lights from the paparazzi high powered cameras could be seen from miles away as they fought to take the best photos of the stars as they entered the charity event.
Upon entering the Grand Hotel De Lapri it was as mesmerizing as the great pyramids of Egypt. It was designed by the greatest engineers of modern marvel, Mr. Corvey Demonte' leading the pack. The Hotel stood taller than all other hotels along the beach front. The hotel had the shape of what looked like a doubled decker pyramid cast in gold. In the daytime, the glass covered pyramid transitioned to black tinted windows to block out the sun rays but at night time, it would become translucent as the purest gold so all eyes could see straight into the entrance way up to the grand ballroom. It was indeed a sight to see.
Light classical music was faintly heard across the rhythmic clatter of forks and knives making musical sounds over the gourmet meals set on the finest of china. Servants moved swiftly between tables taking orders from guests while they talked in happy delight. Ladies were primed to talk in low tones as someone who had to deliver the latest gossip. They were immaculately dressed for the occasion. Each lady carved out her own individual look as the best designers; hair stylist and makeup artist were hired for this event. You could see the eyes of many of the ladies as they glanced once or twice as each new prominent couple entered the room. Many newcomers were given the slightest fuss while others stole the spotlight.
The gents; on the other hand, were perfectly knitted in designer suits as if they were born in them. Some wore scarves around their necks while others had traditional bow-tie. The occasion was exquisite and food was nothing short of divine.
The focal point of the room was the grand piano, golden in color and shimmering sparkles which were positioned in the left front side of the room. Mid-room was left open for the couples who wanted to ballroom dance. The floor was polished to perfection. The stage was set in the finest white and golden linen drapery that hung in low swoops along the ceiling above the stage. The tall crystal podium gave off marvelous rays of light.
