Chapter 3
The Big Job
The sun blazed brightly over the balcony causing a blinding light. Camil shielded her eyes while struggling to look at her unopened mail that sat on her glass. Both the tall trees and the sunrays against the beautiful light blue sky was an awesome sight. The clouds, the size of a man's hand were barely visible as birds flew happily across the span of the sky. It looked as if painted on the canvas of Di' Vinci.
Camil lay on a reclined lawn chair with her hands resting on the back of her head. A slight smile covered her lips as the sun beamed down on her golden caramel skin. Her balcony, decorated with flower pots of all shapes and sizes and they housed the most beautiful array of flowers. Camil was very proud of her green thumb which she inherited from her grandmother.
Listening to the sound of the fountain that sat a ways off was an added delight; for Camil loved the sound of water; whether it was raining, the ocean waves, or just a fountain.
Grasping the mail she'd brought outside with her. She was surprised to see one of the envelopes with the return address from the Holloway & Holloway Foundation. Just seeing the name on the envelope caused a sharp pain to shoot through her stomach. She scurried to get the letter opened.
Camil being a recent graduated from Perkins school for the blind had just received her Doctorate. She anticipated working for a class one blind institution. She had spent most of her days refreshing her resume and applying to potential job offers. Her resume was impeccable she had volunteered at many specialty institutes for the blind while doing her internship. She often prayed that her hard work would pay off and now she sat in quiet anticipation as she stared at the Logo of Holloway & Holloway. Camil had been to several interviews but felt that the right offer hasn't come her way. With mounting bills, she knew she would have to make a decision soon.
The Holloway's logo was very visible all across the north and southwest region of America. Camil understood them to be the richest family on the West Coast. The letter entailed her coming to work for the Holloway family as a private blind specialist. She did not have the slightest clue why the Holloway's would need a blind specialist, but she speedily scheduled an appointment for the next day.
Camil was restless the entire night tossing and turning in her bed. Her lilac satin sheets and satin nightgown did not help either because about three o'clock in the morning she found herself on the floor. After peeling herself off the floor, she went to the kitchen and put some Tinning's instant tea in her favorite mug that read "The Best in the West, and with that, she enjoyed a warm slice of pound cake.
"If I can't get any sleep, I will look a horrid mess tomorrow for my interview," she thought to herself.
She slowly took small bites, and each bite brought great satisfaction. Finishing her pound cake, she turned the microwave night light on and returned to her bedroom. Picking up her iPod player, she fumbled through the menu of titles then finally pushed play. The reading of bibles scriptures played to the sound of light classical music, and before long, she was fast asleep.
All was quiet as the sun forced rays of light through the burgundy curtains that draped the windows. Camil laid sound asleep. Her cell phone began to scream music and vibrated so much so that it almost fell to the floor. Launching from her bed in confusion, she aimlessly grabbed for her cell phone, clicked the dismiss button, and the noise ceased. She laid in bed for five more minutes before slipping on her white fuzzy slippers. She slowly entered her showered like a zombie, allowing the warm water to flow over her head. The water ran from the top of her head pushing the white forming bubbles down to her toes. After about ten minutes of showering, she felt alive and hurried to get dressed. She grabbed a quick egg burrito and French vanilla coffee and headed out the door.
