The Unforgotten Souls

Chapter 2: Devastation

The next day it was rough, Johanna and Tom did not talk at all. Elaine was confused on what has been happening between her mommy and daddy, but everything changes today. 

In walks Johanna to Elaine's room and turns on the light like she does every day to go to school, but this is different.  

"Baby its time to get up." Johanna looks upset and her makeup is running, and it looks like a big red mark on the side of her face. 

" But mommy its 4 in the morning, why are leaving so early?"

"Because baby.....we have to go to a special place."

"Ohh, I like special places!"

"You will love this special place"

"Is daddy coming?"

"No not this time, me and you are just going on this special trip okay!"

"Okay Mommy!"

Johanna picks up Elaine and puts on her coat and her shoes.  

"Okay now sweetheart, we are going to this special place but we are going to be there for a little while. Can you please go and pick out some clothes you want to wear."

"Okay but why isn't daddy coming?"

"Well daddy is just really tired so he is going to stay home and sleep."

"Daddy's sleeping, can I say bye to him?"

"No! No sweetheart, you can't, he is really tired."

"Okay, hold on mommy."

In 5 minutes Johanna had Elaine were in the car heading down the road to Joanna's mothers house. While in the car Elaine sleeping, Johanna is thinking about what she is going to do.

 Crying  and trying to keep her eyes open because she is so tired "Oh God, oh God, what am I going to do. Tom is going to kill me, poor Elaine. She is just.....a child. Okay, Okay whoa calm down, Whips tears , I have to be strong for her, for Elaine. We will stay there for a few days then I get a hold of my lawyers and get this matter done and over with"

After coming home from her mothers, Johanna knocks on the door, it opens and there is Tom standing in the doorway, unsaved, dirty, and flat out drunk. 

"Jesus Tom, can you look any worse."

"Oh Johanna, Oh Johanna." Falls forward like he was going to kiss Johanna, but at that moment  Johanna steps out of the way. Tom falls right into the hallway flat on his face.

" Tom no, I can't"

Getting up, and brushing himself off, " Johanna whats wrong." He reaches out to touch her arm.

"Don't touch me!"

"Baby listen to me, I was just a drunk fool you have to believe I never meant to hurt you."

"Well I don't believe you,and anyways your still drunk!"

"You have to give me another chance, I never meant to hurt, trust me baby, please."

"I don't know if I can, you hit me Tom. How can I forgive you for doing that?"

"We can take it slow,  maybe some marriage counselling."

"I will try but I don't know if I can."

"Try for the sake of our marriage, please"

"Fine, I got to take Elaine to school."

"Okay, talk later?  

"I don't know, maybe."

Tom closes the door and Johanna starts walking down the hallway. Johanna has a handbag and she starts shuffling through it and pulls out some papers. She looks down at them and starts to tear up and throws them into the trash and continues walking down the hall.
