The walk back was pretty relaxing, Nina stopped thinking about her parents, she had a smile on her face now. A smile she couldn't get over. Was it Tristian? She found humming to herself.
Stop humming, Nina. You're sounding crazy now. It was just a random guy, a random arrogant guy.
She finally reached home. There was nobody inside, she guessed both of them left for work early. She found a note from her mother on the dining table.
Had an urgent meeting at office today, had to leave early. Breakfast is on the kitchen counter, have it. Your dad and i are going to come home together tonight. We need to talk to you about somethings.Love,
Ma
The note confused Nina. She was curious about what her parents wanted to discuss about.
Are they finally going to clarify about that night?
Nina went over the kitchen counter, to get her breakfast. Slurping her milk, she thought about all the rude things she screamed at her mother that night. She felt guilty. She wanted to apologize to her mother for everything she said that night. Nina could feel the tension in their house. She understood there was something not right between her mother and father, but she couldn't understand the reason behind it.
Just as she was connecting the dots behind the mystery, her phone rang. It was Matt, waiting to give Nina something she didn't anticipate..
"Hey Matt.."
"Nina, did you talk to Demi in the past few hours?"
"No, in fact i was about to visit her in a few minutes. Is everything all right?"
"I don't know, all my calls are going to her voice mail. Meet me outside your house in 5 mins"
Nina had a bad feeling about this, she could now feel the pain, the anger Demi felt, with her parents separating, she knew how hard it is for Demi. She took her cellphone and rushed out the door.
Matt was standing in the porch, arms folded. He had a straight expression on his face. Nina signaled him to get on his bike.
"Let's go, Matt"
"Do you think something happened to her?"
"No, nothing happened. Are you going to start the bike or not?"
They didn't speak a word, until they reached Demi's home. They stood on the porch of her house looking at the bedroom window. There was never a day in their lives when the curtains to that window was closed. But today was something different, today the curtains were shut tightly, as if Demi was hiding inside, as if she didn't want others to see her. This was disturbing for Nina and Matt. They simply looked at each other in disbelief, clutching each other's cold palms as they walked towards the door of Demi's home. They could only imagine, what they were about to see behind that door.
