"What the hell was that man? I wasn't expecting that".
Neither was I. This wasn't how I'd planned it. Then again, I should have anticipated it. Nothing ever did go according to my plans where that girl was concerned. I had planned on subtlety, a little flattery perhaps, and lots of coercion, and if everything else failed, a hefty dose of some well thought off bribery thrown in, something she wouldn't have been able to resist. Instead, I'd blurted it all out with all the ingenuity of a bulldog, and blamed it on the twin aquamarines that were on the verge of popping out of her orbs as she witnessed me making me a fool of myself for the umpteenth time. Umpteenth, because I've lost count of the other times.
Had it been any other girl, I would've attributed her sudden silence to my mesmerising wit and sparkling personality and made some equally lame joke to the tune. But it wasn't just any other girl. No. It was Tasia, the girl. And the sudden tightening of her already taut jaws as she watched me with hard penetrating eyes was all the proof I needed to conclude how thoroughly I'd mucked it up. I did nothing as she turned and strode away, could do nothing but watch her walk away without a backward glance. There was history between us, the painfully fucked up kind that would never allow her to surrender her guard and let things be. Things would never be the same. Sometimes I wondered how many falls it'd take for me to finally accept defeat, and then I would begin to wonder how I'd manage to live without the hope of her, of us.
I'd so badly wanted her to say yes, and maybe therein lay the problem. I had a lot of will, lots and lots of it, but rarely pondered upon the ways. Tasia couldn't be manipulated. Nope, my girl couldn't be coerced or cajoled, she was much too smart for trickery. Not that the direct approach helped me any. She hadn't said yes, hadn't really said no either. She'd just walked away without dignifying my plea with a response, not bothering with retorts and angry denials. Those I could've worked with, but her silence was another matter altogether. It got to me the way nothing else could.
"Seriously dude, the girl is a witch. How the hell did she manage to convince Lincoln? Man, I'm losing my Bentley for sure, cuz there's no way I'm not flunking this exam".
"If you had a lick of sense Elliot, you'd have come prepared. Stop blaming Tasia for your own stupidity."
"Oh come on man", whined Taylor as his double patty burger and jumbo fries lay forgotten on the tray, and I did manage to summon two ounces of sympathy for the dude, stupid though he was. Nothing ever, and I mean ever, squished his appetite. The fact that he'd ignored food, even momentarily, was a damning testimony to the fact that the guy was royally screwed "Who cares about a stupid Bentley? Look at me, man, look at me. Gia would dump me the minute I flunk this test man, she refuses to so much as breath my air if I fail my exams. Who knew the sick fart would change the paper at the last minute."
Anybody with a working brain, I think to myself and chuckle darkly. The guys were morons, the lot of them. I knew our 'good' deed wouldn't go unpunished and had studied the extra chapters just to save my sorry ass from a similar fate. Still, I couldn't help but feel sorry for them, if they did manage to pass somehow, it would be by the skin of their very nails. Poor sops.
"I think we have to come up with something on Biology, else I'm failing that too. You in, Elliot?"
I sigh in resignation as they battle it out for the next half an hour, wasting precious time. It's times like these when I can't help agreeing with Tasia.
Monkey squad indeed. I let out two snorts, a half groan before stuffing my mouth with ill-treated fries.

An hour has come 4 days later. Sorry for the delay, unavoidable though it was.
Expect an update soon. Or maybe after I get my first comment? I dunno, depends on the mood I guess.
Happy reading :)
