Chapter 4-Park-Audrey

Jasmine and I were at the park. My mom was busy and couldn't bring Cole herself, so she made us. We were currently taking turns pushing him on a tire swing.

"Who do you thinks going to end up moving in there?" Jasmine asked me, motioning to a beautiful three story house at the end of my block.

"I don't know. Someone rich. It's been for sale for like a year," I said shrugging. "Now get your lazy butt out of that swing and take your turn!"

After a slow walk over to the swing, Jasmine took my place at pushing Cole.

"Let's play basketball!" Cole exclaimed jumping out of the tire swing, almost giving me a heart attack. Jasmine always told me I was an overprotective sister.

Jasmine and I hurried to catch up to Cole's sprint to the basketball courts. He grabbed a ball off the rack and started bouncing it with both hands. I'm ashamed my dad hasn't taught him that that is bad, since he was the big basketball guy in high school.

"Me and Jazzy against you, Audie." he said eager to start playing. We always split into these teams. Cole claimed I was too good too have the partner. I guess he was sort of right, I made varsity my freshman year, but I still needed a team. No doubt about that.

"Hey guys! Need another player?" This came from my next door neighbor, Ross. Our families have been very close friends since they moved in four years ago. He has a huge crush on Jasmine, but she has her wonderful boyfriend, Grayson. Not. He was a complete jerk but she remained oblivious to that. Her and Ross would be perfect together.

"Yeah! You're on my team Ross!" my brother immediately demanded, causing Ross to chuckle. Cole thought of Ross as an Olympian, he was his role model.

"Let's get this game started then!" I exclaimed, whenever I get to play my sport I'm excited. Ross was kind of like me only a guy, he made varsity his freshman year too. It was always fun to play him.

An hour later it was down to just me and Ross, Cole and Jasmine got tired.

"Ready to forfeit, Grace?" Ross asked me cockily.

"In your dreams, Martinez." I replied with a smirk to mirror his own, suddenly dribbling right past him for a lay-up. "How about you? Are you ready to forfeit?"

He just laughed shaking his head.

After about another hour of basketball, Ross finally decided to give up. He wasn't used to working this hard for just a game for fun. My dad trained me with a basketball ever since I was five, and if there's one thing I remember him saying everyday, it's 'Practice how you'll play, because you play how you practice'.

He was out of breath way worse than I was. "Wow. We haven't done that in a while." he looked down at me smiling.

"No we haven't, it was fun smoking you." I teased as we walked back to the bench Jasmine and Cole were sitting on.

"You didn't smoke me, you won by a point."

"Whatever Martinez, a W is still a W. No matter if it's by one point or twenty points." we finally reached the bench only to find it empty. They must have got bored and went home, so Ross and I just continued walking home.

"Fine one to zero. I want a rematch though."

"You got it. Anytime, anywhere." I said before walking into my house, the smell of bacon filling my senses. Poor pig.

"It's about time you get home, where have you been Re?" my dad asked from one of the bar stools in the kitchen.

"Beating Ross at basketball." I said proudly.

The smile that formed on his face was contagious, "That's my girl!"

With that, I ran upstairs to rinse off in the shower because I was sweaty and gross. I walked into mine and Jasmine's room and grabbed my pajamas, then went to the shower. Once the water was warm enough, I hopped in. I quickly washed my body and stepped out. After drying off, I got dressed and went downstairs for supper.

We were having breakfast for dinner, a common meal in this house. I had an egg, shredded potatoes, and toast with jam. My mom was telling us about her stressful day at the hospital.

"Also we're gaining like twenty nurses next week. And guess who has to train them to our way of doing things? Me," she finished, finally done with her rant.

"Oh yeah, speaking of those new nurses, I heard one of them is buying that big house on the corner. Uh, Rivera, I think was the last name," my dad chimed in.

"Someone could actually afford that?" Jasmine and I said at the same time, shocked.

My dad nodded, "I was just as shocked as you are when I found out."

"Wow," I said more to myself than anyone else. That ended the eventful portion of our supper. This rest was filled with Cole talking about the most random things.

After dinner, I was exhausted from the game so I went straight to bed. As soon as I closed my eyes, my mystery boy came into clear view.
