Chapter 12-Daddy's Little Girl-Audrey

"Wake. Up. Audrey," an annoyed voice faintly filled my ears.

"What?" I groaned.

"Dad wants you out of bed." I open my eyes to see Jasmine hovering above me.

"Why?"

"Am I dad? Do I look like a guy? Ask him," she retreated back to her computer. Theres not a minute that goes by she's not on that.

I groan once more and swing my legs out of bad. My feet aimlessly find slippers and I stand up, yawning and stretching. I sleepily walk down the stairs. The smell of freshly brewed coffee fills my senses.

I step in the kitchen to find my dad reading the newspaper as always, sipping coffee.

"Good morning daddy," I say sweetly as I pour myself a cup of coffee and creamer.

"Morning, honey," he smiles setting down the paper. I take a seat across from him and sip my scalding beverage. Something was off, his eyes weren't all cheery and happy as they usually are.

"You wanted to talk to me or something?" I question.

His mouth opens, but nothing comes out. It's like he's searching for the words to say. I raise an eyebrow at him.

"I, I just thought, that we haven't done anything just me and you for awhile and I think we should."

My eyebrows knit together in confusion. "But we play basketball together every Saturday?"

"Yes, I know, but something non basketball related," he chuckles, his eyes never fully sparkling like they usually would.

"Like?"

"I don't know, just like take a walk and really, really just catch up. I feel like ever since you started up school this past year you've been ignoring me. And I can't lose my little girl, I can't."

I'm still his little girl? What's this all about? I haven't been ignoring him, have I?

"Okay, sure. Let me go get dressed quick," I say and set my coffee mug down in the sink.

What's going on?

*****

"So what do you want to catch up on?" I asked as my dad and I started walking.

"I don't know, how's school been?"

"Uh, it's school, so. There's nothing really positive I can say about it," I chuckled hoping to lighten the mood.

He just smiled at the ground and nodded.

"You know, I had that same attitude towards school when I was your age."

"I think it's every teens attitude towards school."

"Yeah you're probably right."

"So, how's things at work?" I asked.

"Good," he said. "You know this isn't what I meant by catching up."

"What?"

"I heard about Brent," his tone was dull.

"What do you mean?"

"That you guys are dating," he clarified.

"Uhm,okay?"

"No. It's not okay," he stopped walking and looked at me.

"Why not?"

"Because, you're too young to date!"

"I'm seventeen! I'm not a child!"

"You're still a child in my eyes. And boys, they just, they only want one thing Audrey. And I'm not going to let them get that one thing with you!"

"But it's Brent! You like him?" I asked. I'm confused, he said he liked him.

"I liked him as a friend to you. Now that he's more than that, I'm not so sure where my judgement stands."

"He wouldn't do anything like that, and even if he tried, I wouldn't let him."

"That's what you say now, but if you're caught up in the moment, you wouldn't."

"What's your point to all this?" I asked harshly.

"My point is, I can't lose my little girl, and that's why I'm forbidding you to date him."

Forbid me? He forbids me to date Brent? Forbids me to have a life?

"You," I pause taking his words in, shocked. "You forbid me?"

He nodded, his eyes not meeting mine.

I shook my head. He can't do this. I'm my own person, I'm almost eighteen! Brent may want to do that, but I'm ashamed my father thinks that lowly of him to think that's all he wants.

I didn't know what to say to him so I turned and ran. Not a dramatic, cry and run away, just a simple jog. I couldn't talk to him anymore, so what was the point of staying there?

I heard my dad calling after me, but I didn't look back.

Finally I got home.

I didn't come out for dinner when mom called for it and I never said a word to my dad that night.

Now its like 1:00 in the morning. I was on my laptop scrolling through twitter when my phone vibrated, signaling I had a text.

From: Brent<3

Up for a late night walk?(:

I smiled to myself. What could it hurt?

To: Brent<3

Love to!(: be out it five

I quickly slid on some pants and threw on a jacket in case it was cold. Then, I made my way outside to find Brent in my driveway.
