''Have you checked the mail yet?'' Jeffrey asked.
''No. Why?'' I replied taking a sip of coffee.
''Gary's expecting a package, he asked me to check the mail.''
''And you were so lazy, you're asking me to do it?'' I said with a chuckle.
''Basically,''
''I'm still in my pajamas,''
''When are you not in your pajamas?''
There was a pause.''Good point. What do I get if I run your little errand?''
''Cheese,''
I was already heading out the door.
I ran to the mailbox. Sam saw me from the porch and decided to join me. We raced each other to the mailbox. Sam won.
I checked the mailbox and inside was a small brown package with Gary's name on it. I took it out and reached all the way to the back. I was surprised to feel a small envelope. I pulled it out. It was a white and had a red wax seal. That's strange. Only people of high order use these.
I looked at the back of the envelope. It didn't have a return address or a stamp. It only had a name.
Shadow Rodriguez Harkon
It was for me! I haven't got mail for quite a long time.
I decided to wait til I was inside to open it.
I walked back up to the castle.
Gary was right inside waiting for me.
''Is it here?'' he asked almost bouncing up and down.
I handed it to him and kept walking.
''Anything else?'' Jeffrey asked as I sat at the table.
''I got this letter with my name on it,'' I said handing it to him.
''Who's it from?'' he asked looking it over.
''Doesn't say,''
He handed it back to me.''I wonder what it's for.''
''Let's find out,'' I said pulling out my knife.
I cracked open the seal with my knife and pulled out a piece of old paper.
This is what I read:
Dear Shadow Rodriguez Harkon,
You have been invited to a formal masquerade party at Darkshed Manor.Formal dress and mask are required. We do hope you decide to attend the party. The party will be held on the Friday night of November 21.
Sincerely,
Mr Fox
''That's tonight!'' Jeffrey said reading the letter.''Orpheous! Gary! Get dressed!'' I called up the stairs.
''Why?'' Orpheous asked walking down the stairs.
''Jeffrey, you too,'' I said ignoring him.
''What's going on?'' Gary asked confused.
''Looks like we're going to a masquerade party this evening,'' I said walking up the stairs to go get dressed.
