I continued sitting on the couch. It was pretty comfy. The cheese was already all gone. I wonder if there was more by the snack table.
I got up to go check.
To my luck there was still some cheddar.
I also filled up my glass when I was there. The cider was still nice and cold.
Something was wrong. Very wrong. Something was about to happen and I don't think it will be a good thing.
I kept my ears sharpened. This could be a matter of life and death.
I kept everyone in my sight. Family, friends, and the many strangers at this party. No one was going to get between me and my family and friends.
I didn't want to stay in the same place for very long, so I went over to Ernest.
''Something is about to happen, but I don't know what,'' whispered to him.
He perked up his ears.'' I feel it too, but I have no idea what is about to happen. Just stay close and keep your ears sharp. We may need to make a run for it, so be ready.''
''Got it,'' I replied, walking over to my sisters.
I told them the same thing. I didn't need to tell anyone else. Ernest already spread the word.
Everyone else had no idea what was about to happen, but we were ready.
I walked around the room, and made sure Star and Vixen stayed close. I found myself by the store room. The last place I saw Mr. Fox go into.
Then, I heard the scream. I was the only one who heard it.
The scream of Mr. Fox.
