Violet was sitting at the edge of the bed, feet dangling, when Robert emerged from the bathroom, fully dressed, and running a towel through his hair.
His hands froze once his eyes noticed Violet was awake now and he stared at the floor, frowning for a few seconds.
"Morning." He spoke up as he moved to his desk and picked up an aspirin and a glass of water.
She smiled gratefully as he handed them to her, quickly downing the pill.
"How is your hangover?" He asked, sitting next to her on the bed.
"S=hitty."
He pressed his lips together, patting her leg in comfort.
"Yours?" She said in a small voice.
"Slightly better after a shower." He grinned. "You can have one too, if you want."
"I'll think I'll wait till I get home." She mumbled and silence surrounded them.
"So..." Robert began. "I think we both remember what happened last night."
Violet looked down at her lap. "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry, Rob." She glanced at him as she said that.
"It's not your fault. I mean, it takes two to tango, right?"
"Yeah but I started it. I kissed you first and I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that." She looked up at him with a sad look on her face as she bit her lip.
His eyes automatically moved to her lips before he looked into her eyes again. "It's fine."
They sat in silence again.
"Things aren't going to be awkward between us now, huh?" He was the one to break the silence again.
"I hope not." Violet replied.
"We're not going to let that happen between us." Robert confirmed.
Violet nodded in response.
"Robert! Get down here for breakfast!" They heard his mother yell from downstairs. Robert got off the bed, moving towards the door already.
"Come on."
"Alright, do you have breath mints?" Violet asked as she stood up.
"Yeah, I do but there's also an extra toothbrush in the bathroom, you can use it."
"Really? Thanks."
"Hey, Robert?" Tamara, Robert's mother spoke up as both Violet and Robert sat at the kitchen stools, eating.
Robert hummed, his mouth full of food.
"When did you get back home last night?"
He looked up from his plate, glancing at Violet. He swallowed before replying, "Early."
"No, you didn't." Tamara shook her head with a sweet smile on her face. "I heard you coming in at 4 in the morning."
Robert and Violet looked at each other before Robert took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, mom."
"Of course you are. And you know what else you are? Grounded, for a week."
Robert groaned, dropping his fork in his plate. "Mom, not fair." He whined. "I'm not a little kid, you can't ground me."
"Actually you are, and I can, and that's what I am doing."
Tamara spoke in such a soft, sweet voice, Violet felt as if it was a normal conversation between a mother and her son.
