"God, Jenny Blake is the prettiest thing to ever walk on earth," Robert said dreamily, chewing on his food.

"Aw." Violet pretended to be offended. "What about me?"

Robert gave her a look before going back to staring at Jenny.

"Wanna know what I think?" Violet leaned over their table excitedly.

"No, thanks," Robert muttered distractingly.

She scowled at him. "Rude."

"Anyway," she paused. "I think, you need to grow a pair of balls."

Robert shifted his eyes to her, a scowl of his own formed on his lips. "You think that's funny?"

"No. I'm not trying to be funny." She shook her head, narrowing her eyes at him. "But no, literally, you need to grow some balls and talk to her, I'm sick of you obsessing over her."

"If you were a guy, you'd obsess over her too." He mumbled, slightly shaking his head.

"Yeah, no. She is a total..." Violet trailed off, thinking of the right word. "I don't know... boring?"

"You don't even know her." Robert argued, defense laced in his voice.

"Uh-uh." Violet grinned. "Unlike you, I actually talked to her."

"What? Really? When? When were you going to tell me? What did you guys talk about? Did she talk to you about a guy she likes or something? Did you happen to mention me?" "Okay, okay!" Violet shouted. "Too many questions, you're giving me a headache."

"Sorry," He mumbled shyly.

"Yes, I talked to her. A while ago. We talk occasionally. I would consider her an acquaintance. No, she did not talk about her crushes to me; we are not best friends. And no, I didn't mention you. I'm not going to play cupid." She rolled her eyes while answering all of his questions.

"Well, did she mention me?" He emphasized.

"Um, no. She doesn't even know you exist."

"Ouch!" Robert said aloud.

"Seriously, she doesn't." Violet repeated.

"Telling me that the love of my life doesn't know I exist actually hurts my feelings, so stop. You're supposed to be my so-called best friend."

"You're being dramatic." She pointed out.

"No, I'm not." He narrowed his eyes at her. "Now, stop talking, you're making me mad."

Violet crossed her arms over her chest and stared at her infuriating obsessed best friend.

Robert glanced every now and then at Violet to figure out if she was mad or not and then returned his eyes to the so-called love of his life.

"Violet?" He broke the silence.

Violet hummed in response, playing with her phone.

"You think she will ever... you know, notice me?"

Violet looked up from her phone to find her best friend staring at her intently, waiting for a response.

She sighed, putting her phone down. "She is not going to notice you out of the blue, you know," She spoke slowly.

"She has no trouble noticing Dean Rogers out of the blue." Robert muttered bitterly.

"That's because he's a jock, and he's the bad boy of the school. Jenny is still into the high school cliché of the bad boy falling for her."

"How do you know that?" Robert nodded his head towards her.

"It's written on her forehead for God's sake. Can you see the way she looks at him? She wants to be the girl who 'changed the bad boy'." Violet scoffed.

"I wish she would look at me like that." He complained.

Violet slammed her small fists down on the table, though, both their trays shook and Robert's eyes grew wide at her outburst.

"God. Grow some balls, will you?" She whispered harshly. "This stupid crush is going to get you nowhere. If you want the girl, go fucking get her."

She mocked with a baby's voice, "Don't just sit around and 'wish she could look at you like that'. I'm sick of you complaining like that."

Robert stares silently at her for a few minutes before he slung his backpack over one of his shoulders and picked up his tray. He glanced at her one more time before walking away.

Violet huffed, realizing that she has probably upset him. She left her tray on the table, picking her bag up, she ran to the direction he stalked off to.

"Robert, Rob, wait!" She called out as she noticed him walking in the hallway.

He refused to stop while Violet struggled to keep up with his long strides.

"Wait, wait, please." She begged as she walked right beside him now.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she exclaimed. "Did I upset you? I didn't mean to, I'm sorry."

"Look, it's not just you, okay? I'm just upset." He suddenly stopped to face her. "I'm not mad at you. You didn't say anything wrong."

Violet's eyes scanned his face and in that moment, she wanted to kill Jenny for ever making Robert think like he was not good enough. Because that's what he was thinking right now.

"I just- I'm upset and I need to be alone. So please leave me alone." He turned to walk around when Violet grasped his wrist.

"No, I'm not going to leave you alone." She deadpanned. "I am your best friend and it's my job to be there for you. So let me be."

"Yeah but you are sick of hearing me complain about it."

Violet sighed when he used her words against her. "You know I don't mean that. I love it when you talk to me. You're my best friend so please let me be there for you. You can't shut me out no matter what I say. I'm an idiot and I always say things I don't mean."

Robert looked away, biting the inside of his cheeks. "I need space." He finally said.

"No, you don't," Violet responded, grabbing his hand and intertwining their fingers. "You need me. Your best friend," She said with a shy smile.
