Chapter Five
The journey was a painful one. For once, Sasuke kept talking. And talking and talking. I wasn't used to an Uchiha making so much noise. But all he did talk about was revenge and how much he hated his brother. But on the other hand, it was good. For example, he didn't even notice I had a too-heavy backpack for this mission. And I could focus clearly on my thoughts. Get in. Strike fast, keep moving, don't stop. Fire won't work. Genjutsu won't work. Snakes work. You haven't mastered water yet, but that's just as fine. Keep 'em coming. Invent new patterns. They know your fighting stile.
We checked around at a couple of towns, knowing they couldn't have gotten too far and just hoping we were going to make it in time.
"This is insane!" he said after we failed at our fifth town. "Just dab into his senses and find him! You're twins!"
"It doesn't work like that," I said calmly, grabbing something to eat at one of the stands. Fighting on an empty stomach was never a good idea.
"You're eating at a time like this!"
"They haven't reached them yet. I would've felt it if Naruto engaged in battle. I can't think clearly on an empty stomach."
"Fine, whatever. Look, just try and dab into his senses and find him!"
I sighed and tried. All I could get was a calm feeling, indicating that he was resting. "They haven't engaged in combat yet." I repeated.
So we kept on searching again. We asked around at hotels to see if an old man and a blonde kid have passed through but no one saw a pair that we described. Then suddenly, I felt a sharp nudge in my stomach and new. They made contact. And we were in the wrong town.
"We gotta hurry!" I said. I knew that it'll be easier this time around. Naruto was fighting which means his chakra could be detected.
"That's what I've been saying all along!"
"They're in the next town over. I can practically smell his chakra to here. It's five minutes if we hurry."
"They might not even have five minutes!"
"Well standing around and arguing isn't going to help! Come on!"
Finding their hotel in the next town over wasn't very hard-it was the only hotel that was shaking. Though the people outside were pretty oblivious to what was going on but my senses were bursting out of control from all the chakra mixing.
"He's here. Finally," Sasuke breathed and in the next moment he was gone.
"Wait, you moron!" I left my backpack at the registration desk and ran after him.
It wasn't a pretty scene I witnessed. They were tightly squeezed into a corridor, with Sasuke right before me, panting and breathing fire, Naruto and Jiraiya in front of him, looking back and forth between Sasuke and Itachi, who was standing next to Kisame on the other side of the hallway. No one payed any attention to my arrival. The tension in the air was insane!
"Sasuke..." I said slowly, trying to approach him. "Did we have an anger management talk? I think we should have an anger management talk."
"Lily what are you doing? These guys are really dangerous!" Naruto said but I tried not paying attention to him. Jiraiya was in charge of keeping him safe. I was in charge of not letting Sasuke get killed. And he was paying no attention to me.
"Could you, maybe, calm down?" I said, laying a hand on his shoulder. "I know what happened but this is out of your league."
"You should probably stay back," he said. He was really shaking.
